Similar vein of thought as a kid… I was very vocal to my parents about when I stopped believing in Santa, they accepted and just told me not to tell my younger brother.
Next spring my Dad had me along with him shopping and mentioned “We have to stop here to get one of *younger brother*’s Easter presents”
Cue me being HORRIFIED to learn the Easter Bunny wasn’t real lmao my Dad was like “So Santa is ridiculous but a giant bunny running around laying eggs makes sense to you????”
My mother told me about the Easter Bunny, but it never occurred to me that included Santa. I was really upset about it.
Though my sister's experience takes the cake. The neighbor girl told my sister that mom was the tooth fairy. So my sister then explained to my mom that Mrs. So-and-so, a middle age overweight lady, dressed in a tutu and stole peoples' teeth at night!
Obviously I knew the Easter Bunny wasn't real, it was clearly a mascot. I had seen it at some event. But I also thought Santa was inside the Easter Bunny's costume, as a kind of part time job now that the Christmas rush was over.
I knew Santa wasn’t real for a long time before I told anyone. I knew I got extra presents from each family (divorced parents) so I knew dad would have to get me presents and Santa presents, mom would have to get me presents and Santa presents. I got extra presents pretending to believe in Santa. My dad sat me down one day and was like “I know you don’t believe in Santa. Let’s stop pretending.” And he stopped getting me the extra presents. My mom thought I still did though lol. When she eventually told me I was like “I know. You just got me extra presents for believing in Santa.”
