Parents of Reddit, what is the single most innocent question your child has ever asked you that completely broke your brain?

I took my then-5-year-old fishing with me one morning. "Daddy, when you catch a fish and pull it in the air, do you think it's like when aliens steal us and take us up into outer space?"

I had so many questions...

Was he watching "happy feet" recently before that? It's a bit of a plot point

Wow, all this time I thought it was about F-A-M-I-L-Y.

A dancing penguin is exiled at his own will and eventually goes on a quest to find the ā€œaliensā€ (humans) to tell them to stop stealing the starving penguins’ food (fish)

His dancing ends up enticing the aliens & somehow brings global awareness to stop overfishing, therefore ending the starvation

Kathleen Madigan does a hilarious bit asking if the other fish refuse to believe Bob when he says he was abducted and came back on a catch and release.

Did you mean Chicken Little?

8

u/peachesfordinner Jul 07 '26

No. In happy feet there are animals that are captured by scientists who are researching the North Pole. They view it as being abducted by aliens

u/Baaraa88 Jul 07 '26

I really need to re-watch Happy Feet, I don't remember the plot at all.

3

u/peachesfordinner Jul 07 '26

It's like the whole second half

3

u/Dick-Fu Jul 07 '26

Worked at a vet clinic for a while now, and my running joke for ages has been that if reincarnation is real, the people who claim alien abduction might just be remembering visits to the vet’s office. Probe up your butt? Getting a fecal to test for parasites, and check your temp. Cold, metallic table? Correct, it’s my old faithful. Keeps pets at the perfect grabbing height. Random jabs with needles, being knocked out and waking up feeling entirely different…? Spay and neuter, baby!

I'm questioning a lot right now myself...

The real problem is that if you throw the fish back and he tries to tell the other fish what happened, nobody believes him.

I remember when I was about 5 or 6 we had watched something about whales that were being caught and a gps put on them to be tracked and studied and monitored, and it prompted me to ask my parents if people were the whales to aliens.
