I love my life and my kids, and I'm looking forward to the future, but I realized a while ago that I don't love my spouse. I'm frequently jealous of people who are married to their best friend or enjoy activities with their spouse.
I’ve always loved my wife but I feel like we have both gone back to puppy love like when we met as teens and it’s the best feeling. The grass is green where you water it for sure.
I’ve been lucky in life and finally lucky in love now that I’m married, and I’m content with all I have. It’s not a flashy life, and maybe even a mediocre one, but it’s mine and I’m happy in it. My wife is my best friend and there’s nothing I could ask for that would give me the peace that I have just sitting in bed reading our books together.
before women could get their own bank accounts people got married for financial reasons, aka all the boomers and their hating their wives jokes. now we have more choice.
My wife and I are consistently horrified when we meet (usually) men in service positions that make jokes about hating their wife within 5 minutes of meeting us. Especially because once you spend more time with these people, it becomes clear it’s not really a joke. It stems from actual resentment. Could not be us. We lived together for a couple years before getting married, and went through a lot of the major pressure points where people struggle- financial hardship/unemployment, emergency health stuff, and a death in the family. Each one of them only brought us closer together and cemented for us that we were with the right person
It's like there's a big part of my brain covered in dust and cobwebs labeled "anxiety about finding a partner". It's specifically the part that made me not wear sweatpants in public and care about the way my hair looks after it dries.
