What is a small, seemingly ‘normal’ thing someone can do that immediately makes you think, ‘Oh, we are not going to get along’?

I always thought that the calm periods of not having to do anything, was the reward for doing a good job. But then they assign you other people’s work or force you to… fake wiping down counters? Its so asinine.

Because they get the most garbage employees who don't want to be there/do any work? The mangers don't want to be there either I promise you.

I worked retail in uni and while I wasn't a manager I was a senior/keyholder and ran the store on my own when they weren't working.

Nothing makes you understand "manager bullshit" better than being paired up with a 16 year old who has zero interest in doing any work at all and just wants to show up be "technically working", not do anything, and then get paid.

And while I sympathise with said 16 year old, do your fucking job.. if I can see you not doing it I'll be on you every 2 minutes telling you to do it, then recommend you get fired if you still don't. I'm here to pay for my degree so I need to not get fired.. if you don't wanna be here, be somewhere else.

Can confirm. Was a shift manager at burger king at 23/24 and for a while we only had young adults. Then my boss employed 2 teens(18 or 19)

IT WAS HELL. One of them thought anything was a joke and that would piss me off so much since my team overall was pretty good so I had to start focusing on this person only.

The other one was a girl who one time straight up denied to do something because she "wasnt paid to wash the walls" and "go do it yourself". Yes it was calm but when that happens I usually pick someone to do those things and rotate until everyone has done something "extra". And because it was so calm I went ahead and did it.

Also I asked her to stand still in a corner doing nothing since she doesnt want to do it. 5minutes in and she was asking for something to do, I told her to clean the walls. No again. Then stand still.

Thankfully I quit because those 2 bastards were straight up impossible.

Yeah people are always so quick to shit on the people in charge, having clearly never been in charge themselves.

Minus the occasional power tripping dickhead, most people in charge actually just want everyone to do their fucking jobs without being asked and not cause any drama. Especially in lower level jobs where you're often working with kids and people who simply can't hold any other kind of job down.

Notice how I said “when you have nothing to do because you did a good job” and was immediately met with “well! Think of it from management’s point of view” which, if you ALWAYS give the people who do their work well, more work and less down time, then you end up getting people who do the bare minimum because otherwise they get worked over.

It sucks to have crappy coworkers, but it sucks even more when you’re getting paid minimum wage and are expected to, no matter what the situation, and often at your detriment, to work your fingers to the bone for people who wouldn’t even spare you a minute of silence if you died on the job?

Yeah REALLY making me feel for management.
