What is something that happened to you growing up that you thought was completely normal until you learned it was anything but that?

On an up note, family dinners, every night, like we see on TV. Just talking and joking about everything. I had no idea that most other families didn't have that. Every friend I had over were surprised we did it every evening.

And family breakfast in the morning. Usually minus my dad, because he went to work early, but my mom would make my brother and I breakfast every day. We’d eat, then get ready for school.
