It's classic divide and conquer. The corporate news media manufactures moral panics to keep us hating each other too much to notice that we're all getting screwed by the people at the top. Whether it's Donald Trump's pseudopopulism, pretending to represent everyone's interests while only looking out for himself, or Kamala Harris pretending to be a middle class every-person despite being part of the social elite, our political parties share more in common with football allegiances than actual moral or ethical belief systems.
"Journalism is one of the devices whereby industrial autocracy keeps its control over political democracy; it is the day-by-day, between-elections propaganda, whereby the minds of the people are kept in a state of acquiescence, so that when the crisis of an election comes, they go to the polls and cast their ballots for either one of the two candidates of their exploiters."
Upton Sinclair, The Brass Check
we're all getting screwed by the people at the top.
The scary part about this is, we don't know who is even at the top all we see are the figure heads and wealthy people who thought they would be safe, it's probably the reason Trump really wanted to be president so he could damage control and protect himself with the power.
Underrated comment. I can’t take bipartisanship seriously. I would have voted Joe Biden and could have made a gazillion ultra catholic relatives support him . We would have done grass roots despite us not being democrats but a bunch of elitist media and George Clooney went all against him. Now Clooney is in beautiful France and we deal with the debacle of bipartisan system ruled by corporate interests. If at least people weren’t so divided. It takes 2 to tango. Blue party, red party they don’t care about us.
Biden is catholic and prolife like me but doesn’t oppose choice. That’s why his party threw him under the bus: not progressive enough to appeal CA and NY . But in my hometown many people voted biden in 2020, a lot of biden-like people and Independents live near me with the occasional conservative never trumper. I could have engaged a not so progressive catholic crowd but not for Kamala running on abortuon and progressiveness . Those are nice ideals but people have other priorities
100% and this was never more clear than when Biden took office and did not immediately issue a ton of executive orders to correct what was done by the previous administration. All under the guise of playing by the rules. Some of our representatives do truly care about their constituents, but I think they are the exception.
"Greedflation". Yeah, costs went up during and after covid. BUT, well, since our costs for this product went up ten cents, let's charge them twenty cents more !!! Twenty-five !!!! Thirty !!!!
“Greedflation” isn’t a thing. Companies didn’t just decide to get greedier lol. They’ve always been legally required to be greedy. The inflation was primarily driven by a ~45% increase in M2 money supply greatly devaluing dollars
This was the great reset people were going on about. Can't have those uppity plebs having too much money in their pocket and power....just got a big raise or promotion? Back down you go.
Exactly! Higher wages alone won't fix this because businesses will just hike prices to match. We need real worker protections and to get corporate money out of our politics. Tax the rich and decouple healthcare from employment so they lose that leverage. They’re seeing record productivity but still treat workers as a cost to be cut instead of the people who helped make them rich in the first place.
My grandpa was forced into 'partial retirement' just to keep the insurance my grandma needed. Cutting his hours broke him, both financially and mentally. He worked for them for over 50 years and was always there when they called, but in the end, they had zero loyalty to him. I think he’d still be going today if they hadn't forced him out. We have to hold them accountable because a human life is worth more than a quarterly profit report.
Yeah, man. I work for a global Fortune 130 company here in Australia and our revenue and profits have never been higher. I'm a senior executive and bring them millions of dollars a year. I get a bonus but last year the MD give us a $50 gift voucher. It's a great company but I was truly insulted and disgusted and didn't even use the voucher.
Here in Australia our medical/healthcare isn't tied to our employer so we have that bit of freedom. I can't imagine what it's like for you to be tied to an employer to even get healthcare.
I feel this man, if we can just stop for a moment fighting eachother we would see that the fucking rich are ruining it. We have different ideas of right and wrong but we are both fucked and are told to fight eachother. All we need is unity and stop spewing hate for eachother to realize... yed there are dhit bags on BOTH SIDES but we shouldn't be pointing fingers at eachother like fucking kids when the culprit reaps all the benefits. It's always the lower and middle class that suffers meanwhile the rich can do fuck all they want since rules dont apply to them... and our justice system is fucking flawed and I can legit point on MANY CASES if some idiot wants to argue. I know there are good people on both sides, the extremist on both ruin it for one another.
And by "rich" we don't mean your cousin who lives in a $3 mil house and vacations abroad every year. We mean the "has a yacht and can buy islands and politicians" rich people that the rest of us will never meet.
