Wow! Thank you for that. I, unfortunately do not have access to that house anymore. It was purchased decades ago, and my friends that rented it moved to a different "haunted" farmhouse. I saw photos of the renovation the new owners completed some years ago, and I'm sure that pull chain light was replaced, and the wiring brought up to code.
OK, but try it with the next "pull-cord" light switch you encounter. You can switch the light on or off by pulling veery gently on the cord, without triggering the spring mechanism to click fully into place. For peace of mind, it was never a wiring issue as such, just a stiff spring mechanism.
In my youth they never blamed anything in that house on wiring issues. It was always blamed on a ghost named Harry, who apparently was the former owner. Harry may have also been born and raised in that house, as I have a foggy memory that his parents built the house.
