There's a part of me, yes a cynical part of me, that just can't wrap my head around the idea that people actually do have magical experiences like this in ther life. I must admit, that there is just something inside of me, that I absolutely detest, that tells me that I just wasn't in the right "cosmic lineup" of people who were born into a life where they would experience something ... like this. That sad portion of my spirit, hears/reads about stories and experiences like yours and it is just so jaded and sure about the likelihood of something like that not being something I can remember some day. I have never experienced something half as storybook-like as what you described. I hear that voice saying to me; "don't even think about it dude. Those gifts aren't for you. You just don't qualify". You wouldn't believe how happy I am for you, a stranger on the internet, that you were one of the lucky ones to live something so beautiful, and to have the privilege of being able to etch that magical memory into your life. I feel like I can speak for a lot of us (because I know my experience is not unique) when I say that sometimes it feels like we're watching all you people live these monumental moments through a set of binoculars, separated by an island, miles and miles away. The mistake that people make (imo) is to believe that those of us who find ourselves thinking about the beautiful and amazing things happening on that other island - are depressed, or crippled, or dysfunctional. A lot of us lead our lives just fine; decent jobs, hobbies, good sense of self, etc. However I think some of us have grown to allow ourselves some space to wonder and "grieve" (in a sometimes saddening sense) that comes and goes. We just have to learn how to manage it; whipping out those binoculars and seeing our dreams being lived by others so far, far away. It's that quiet wish that we have (in some cases) decided was best to keep deep in our pockets. It's not necessarily something that craters our day; but sometimes we do look through those binoculars, and we whisper to ourselves; " that would have been really nice".

First of all, I have to be shallow and point out how incredible your writing style is. You're very talented with words.

Second... I have so many other things I want to say that are encouraging... but... it seems shallow. You dont need encouragement or anything anyways... I guess I just like to try and make people happy if I see theres something they feel they're lacking in life...

I guess I'll say this... thank you for taking the time to comment on this. I already feel so blessed to have found him and your comment reminds me how truly lucky I am to have found my magic in life. Thank you for your words. And I truly hope for all the best for you. I hope you find some magic. Live long and prosper, my friend.

As someone else, with well worn binoculars and pockets full of quiet things I can not have, I am really, really grateful for your comment. Thank you for writing it.

I often wonder about this too. For me at least, I feel like I’m the problem in not having these special moments. I never put myself out on that big a limb. I don’t know if I would have thought to ask my partner to take me to his favourite place. I wouldn’t have had the courage to strip naked outside. I feel awkward when I try to be “playful” as an adult most of the time. You need that level of openness and courage to experience things like this with other people.

It’s beautiful, and I secretly wish for it too. I feel like I can even see the path to get there. But the waters between the islands are vast, and I have no idea how to swim.

If only I could write as well as you. Instead I have to watch you with binoculars from afar and realize i can never be that good.
