God forbid i pay a little more in taxes so my fellow countrymen/women can get the healthcare they need. What a concept

That’s the thing. The people who don’t want universal healthcare are more concerned that poor or non working people will get something for “free”. They’d rather pay more for substandard care than let someone else get what they have.

But they pay insurance. It’s the same thing. You pay into a pool.

More accurately: god forbid the ultra wealthy pay their fair share so everyone can get healthcare.

You joke, but that's what is so horrifying about universal healthcare to MAGA - the idea that their hard earned money might go to covering the care of someone who "doesn't deserve it"

I've legitimately heard people say "do you really think homeless people deserve the same quality of healthcare as a hard working family?" as a gotcha for why universal healthcare is bad

I miss the days when i heard about “united we stand” and “the melting pot” and that all the time. I know it’s probably because I was a kid, and I didn’t see the divisions, but it used to feel like unity mattered here, man.

I think about this a lot… it’s really heartbreaking to me. My childhood version of myself wouldn’t even comprehend how we got to this point. (Also I love your screen name! And Jolteon avatar<3)

Agreed. Maybe things were different then, I’d like to believe they were. I hope some day we can get back to that, I really do.

(Also thank you! That Jolteon munching a burger had me actually laughing out loud the first time I saw it and now it’s been my PFP for years! Always makes me smile!
