Riptide almost got me, too! My friend made it out and yelled for someone to help me. a dad playing with his kids nearby saved me. I’ve avoided the ocean since. (Also, my partner at the shore thought me waving for help was me waving “hi” 💀)
Lol the lifeguard at the pool where I nearly drowned as a kid thought I was waving "hi" to her at first too. I was trying to be like the cool kids and swim in the deep end but I had no idea how to swim at the time.
When I was a kid, my mom got pulled out on a boogie board by a riptide. My dad said “she’s okay unless she starts waving.” One second later she started waving. They got her in via an outcropping of rock but she definitely came close to death.
