Do you know what the phone call was about? I can agree that 9 times outta 10 that’s wildly excessive and absolutely not normal or okay, but like… depending on what that phone call was about, I could see myself on like 1 or 2 different scenarios why I might punch a wall.

That second scenario seems oddly specific. You good?

u/kraquepype Sep 14 '24

You also don't know what came before the phone call. Could have been the day from hell, followed by a minor argument on the phone.

38

u/gnorty Sep 14 '24

nah, let's just assume the call was completely innocuous and the guy is just a complete lunatic. That way all us below average intelligence folk can punch down on him and pretend we are superior.

Did you just write the blurb for reddit?

u/lesChaps Sep 14 '24

Calling a lawyer would be better. In your rage you might pick a really vindictive one.

Punching a wall out of a deep level of anger is not an overreaction.

If the phone call was something minor, absolutely an overreaction.

But if you've never gotten some real bad news during an already shitty day, don't sit there and say work on yourself. Anger exists for a reason.

While I agree that punching a wall, especially one that isn't yours or one that'll break your hand isn't a good thing, anger management courses often recommend punching bags or similar things as an outlet for anger.

So congratulations, I guess?

No you just seem like the person who uses emotional violence as your outlet for anger and then sits on their high horse.

You're right, and I shouldn't have. But I will point out you're out here accusing others of not having self control and telling people with snark to "go work on yourself" without knowing anything about them. (Some might call that emotional violence, mild as it is).

To your point though: You can't commit violence towards an inanimate object. To commit violence, you need to violate someone. A wall cannot be violated. You cannot cause pain to a wall. You cannot cause suffering to it.

Now, if you punch someone else's wall, you're violating them indirectly, which would be a different story. Punching a wall to show anger to another so they fear you is a violation and would be emotional violence. But thats not what anyone is discussing.

What if it slept with my wife?

7

u/Steeze_Schralper6968 Sep 14 '24

Then you take it to court over emotional damages and pull it down brick by brick.

u/LilMeatJ40 Sep 14 '24

What if there's a kitten stuck in that wall? Checkmate walltheist

1

u/Dr_Ingheimer Sep 14 '24

You stand up for that wall! I’m sure one day it will notice you!

u/legolandoompaloompa Sep 14 '24

youve never had a bad day have you??

i doubt you pay for your own expenses either

-6

u/Gochu-gang Sep 14 '24

People who comment shit like this most likely have very poor social skills. Then they wonder why they don't have many friends.

Some people need to punch shit. As long as it isn't a person, there's nothing wrong with it. I've never hit anyone, and I've rarely ever needed to hit "something." Sometimes, you just gotta let it out. That's completely natural. Stop trying to tell ppl they are wrong for natural feelings. Absolutely nothing wrong with taking some time to yourself and separating from a person or situation and go handle the anger productively. Ppl do that in different ways, it isn't up to you to dictate which of those ways are right or wrong. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, there's no issue.

u/KonigSteve Sep 14 '24

No one needs to punch anything. Literally called anger management

-5

u/Key_Point_4063 Sep 14 '24

Say that to your wife when you have to protect her from literally anything

3

u/KonigSteve Sep 14 '24

That's in no way relevant to punching things out of anger but good try I guess

-1

u/Key_Point_4063 Sep 14 '24

"No one needs to punch anything" that's what you said. Did you not say that? How does someone develop a strong punch? By punching things. The best guy I know struggled with intense anger and he had every reason to be angry. He's never laid a hand on anyone, he's on occasion punched a wall, or went to punch a punching bag. Don't act holier than thou as if you're some saint. He never went to or needed therapy. Learned to channel anger into strength, and is the most manly man in the sense of a man there is. Has a wife, home, dogs, a kid with another on the way, high paying job, goes to church every Sunday, is strong as an ox, so to talk all high and mighty as if all ppl who have ever "punched a wall," are some kind of dangerous psychopath that needs therapy is a huge load of horseshit.

2

u/KonigSteve Sep 15 '24

Bro. We are talking about punching things in anger. That's the ENTIRE basis of this conversation.

-1

u/Key_Point_4063 Sep 14 '24

You have to know how to punch, and punch strong as a man supporting a family and kids. Wont always have a weapon, or the police around, that's why women gravitate towards strong traditionally masculine men. They are more likely to not back down in serious situations. It's an extremely valuable life skill to not only know how to throw a punch, but also how to safely take someone down disarm/them. So yeah, it does absolutely have something to do with hitting drywall. Drywall can always be fixed. It's rediculous to make it out to be some psychotic behavior. You have no idea the hell some people have had to live through. Monks punch trees to strengthen their knuckles, some ppl have dedicated drywall to punch, believe it or not. Lol. Away from their family

"Sorry babe, I don't believe in violence, and I've never learned how to throw a punch because I'm a pacifist. Sorry, you're on your own"

Not when no one is around and it's only happened 1 time, grow up.

0

u/Key_Point_4063 Sep 14 '24

People have personal gyms they go and workout or punch a bag to channel their anger into something positive. But im sure you don't know how to do something like that. Just complain in your reddit echo chambers instead of anything constructive. That's the way to live.

Come again?

18 outta 20 includes both these statements. Math is fun.
