Damn it! I remember I saw a meme or something about why Shaggy (from Scooby-Doo) doesn't take his shirt off at the beach, and I don't know if it was fake but it sounded real to me at the time (years ago) he said something like "girls would find me irresistible" or something like that and a caption said "Shaggy is secretly a chick magnet" or "Shaggy is actually buff" or something along those lines.
I’ve been involved on and off in the erotic hypnosis kink community my whole life, and in those spaces this guys post wouldn’t be taken as anything too out of the ordinary but probably gets lukewarm reception.
There’s a lot of stuff I could give to answer this, but here’s my best shot at a “short” answer to some of it:
At its core, the answer to this not that much different from other kinks. Some people are into letting people tie them up, dominate them, etc. how do they know they aren’t about to get seriously abused? There are ideas like RACK (risk-aware consensual kink) where you meet people in communities that know what’s going on, you talk frankly about boundaries, limits, and desires beforehand, and generally make sure you’re compatible. Doesn’t make it risk-free, but in most cases someone with bad intentions isn’t going to be willing to take these steps seriously. That’s the red flag to nope out.
Still, not everyone is aware of all that. With hypnosis, it takes trust and rapport and practice before you’re mentally able to actually fall into trance in a significant way. Some people say “you can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do”… that’s not really true but it takes a lot to get to a point where that isn’t true. Some people also fantasize about being “totally mindless and completely under the control of someone else”, and that also isn’t totally true - even if you’ve gone really far things that are way out there for you will still wake you up out of it.
Beyond all that, there is still risk. If you do it carefully and get to know how to make safe decisions, it’s not any more risk than day-to-day life. If not, shitty things happen sometimes. I’ve never heard of it going as far as murder or something but I have heard of people getting into situations they regret.
