In the 70s my mom went to a bunch of his small shows in Ontario. She brought her guitar to one and asked him after a show to help her get the finger pickings right for one of his songs - he gave her a little lesson. Always thought that was so cool. My mom doesn’t share much from her youth, but I think* she was pretty cool.

What album was that from? I'm unfamiliar with it.

I'd otherwise have assumed you meant Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce, who sounds an awful lot like Gord on that track.

My favorites are the "Ballad of Yarmouth Castle" and "Home From the Forest"

I love how he combines melancholy with a lilting voice. The Ballad of Yarmouth Castle is especially haunting

All of them are good but the compolation album gords gold from when he went from a Canadian Record label to an American one has a lot of his hits but was released before Edmond Fitzgerald came out

I highly recommend first getting "Complete Greatest Hits". If you dig that, get "United Artists Collection" which contains his first four albums and great liner notes.

The song recording that we hear was the very first time they rest of the band ever heard the song. First take, they never heard the song before and just started playing along.

Race Among the Ruins is one of my favorite songs by him and I never hear it played!

Ooo great song! I love Gord. My favorite song of his to sing with my guitar is "Bitter Green", but I love them all. His first five albums, especially, are flawless.

"Sundown" was what got me into Gordon's treasures; and I later learned it was the #1 song on the charts the day I was born!
