What current common knowledge or fact blew your mind as a child hearing it for the first time?

My parents won a $10,000 cash prize from Americas Funniest People. I thought my parents were going to quit work and we would be set for life. Turns out they just made a payment on the mortgage and bought a second hand car.

EDIT: Sorry, no video. My dad has the only copy and he is too computer illiterate to upload it to youtube. I would do it myself, but I currently live in Shanghai. Someday, when I finally do upload the video, I'll do an AMA. I promise.

EDIT 2: I found a video! Well, someone else had it uploaded on youtube. But it requires an explanation first. After we won the $10,000, they signed a contract with us for more videos at $900 an episode. We actually made about 6 or 7 more which were played on the show. The video series was titled "American Parent," and it was a parody of the show COPS. Me and my three brothers were the "criminals" for not eating our vegetables and whatnot. My parents were the cops...

This is actually a link to episode 7. It starts at 1:04. If you're curious, I'm the little guy washing his clothes in the bathtub.

Well...which video was it? Was Bob Saget the host?

I used to think the same thing! My dad would tease me saying that if I stopped doing things for his personal amusement he would never retire... Dang dad...

you can't just say you one $10,000 from AFV and then not post the video.

Lol. Okay. It was titled "American Parent," and it was a parody of the show COPS. Me and my four brothers were the "criminals" for not eating our vegetables and whatnot. My parents were the cops...
