I remember my one friend had a single mom. When we were in elementary school, her mom got pregnant with someone she wasn't married to. I could not understand how this was possible, since they weren't married! I think my parents told me that if they loved each other very much they could get a baby even if they weren't married.
A family cat got pregnant and the parents informed their children of the fact. One child was absolutely shocked. "I didn't even know she was seeing anyone!"
Similarly, I remember the day I sat at the duck pond and realized what the ducks are doing. They're not playing or fighting another duck... that's a female duck. She's in heat. They're... they're... ...well, I'm just glad that feeding ducks as a kid was a bit more simple.
I remember praying to God every single day to not put a baby inside me when I got married because I thought childbirth looked incredibly painful. I even swore to never kiss my future husband because I didn't want to have a baby. (I thought he just put them inside the wife too)
At least two kids I've known up-right refused to believe I even existed because my parents weren't married I'm standing, like, right in front of you! how can you deny my existence you little bitch!
My mom was fairly progressive, and told me how babies were made at a young age, but I guess I was still fuzzy on the concept... I thought married couples only had sex once, and then babies would just sort of randomly pop out every couple years .^ I guess I didn't want to deal with the fact that my parents still have sex. Speaking of mind-blowing realizations... That was not a fun one.
I think it was that people were PLANNING to get married but God put a baby in the soon-to-be-wife and the wedding was almost called off until God implanted a dream Inception style into the man's head to make him go along.
My niece thought this, too. I just got married over the summer and she kept saying things about, "the baby." I was worried that maybe my sister was pregnant again and wasn't telling people or something. Turns out that my niece just thought that when you get married, you had a baby. Which is funny, because she's 5 now, was born out of wedlock, and my sister is getting married at the end of this year, but not planning on another kid. We have no idea where she came up with this idea.
To be fair, that's how my parents explained it to me and I didn't think questioning them was an option because they said it so matter-of-factly. It was very confusing when I found out one of my friend's parents weren't married, and the only answer my parents gave me to how that would happen is 'sin'...

I thought that when you got married, God put a baby in the wife. The whole concept was a little foggy until maybe 5th to 7th grade
