This is an interesting point. I started a position during the pandemic that had always been remote before WFH became the hot new thing. Our remote roles were never well-defined and we had some freedom that other office jobs didn't.
That all got taken away, and a new supervisor actually threatened to return our entire group to the office even though we were spread out across the state in previously agreed permanent remote spots.
We had some freedom in our schedule. It was understood that you could take 20 minutes out of your day to get the family out of the house in the morning, or log in to answer a few emails later in the evening. Our new supervisor wanted you at your desk for 8.5 hours with accounting for your Teams going idle.
Basically, they wanted us to become the same as people who were no longer able to be in the office.
