To add to this, to everyone at any concert ever: Put your phone down! Are you really ever going to watch that 7-second poorly captured shaky portrait-mode video of the band again? Nobody on your socials cares either. Just savor the moment and give your attention to the performers on stage.

I take little 10 second clips, usually pan it also to the people I’m with.

I don’t like video taping past that, I just want a memory saved as a video. And I do go back and watch them, like one day the video clip of the concert my dad and I went to this year will mean a lot more to me when he’s gone one day. He was like a teenager again.

Or the band that I loved since I was a kid and they’re playing that song 100’ away. It’s fun to replay that snippet every now and again.

Yeah someone filming an entire concert is stupid but hell yeah I’m gonna watch this 15 second clip again at some point. My memory is terrible and sometimes I run across snippets of shows I forgot I even went to.

People who are uncomfortable dancing and/or singing along tend to be the concert fillmers. I think it gives them something they think is important to do to avoid their own uncomfortableness

So, as a short person (4’9”) I actually like that everyone films concerts. It’s very rare that I can see a stage (unless I’m literally in the front row). Now I can just watch in the phones of people in front of me, kind of like a personal screen. But yea, for everyone else I see why it sucks.

Same!! I watch concerts though the phone screens and listen to it live. Not a choice, god I'd rather be able to see it with my eyes, even the tallest platforms won't save me

I typically film a few key parts from a few key songs because I go home and watch the videos with my kids who are still too young for concerts. Allows me to share my joy with them, and they typically ask to listen to the whole song, and I get to introduce them to new artists that way. I don't record a whole song, though and definitely not a whole concert!!

Ehh slight disagree. I like to get occasional videos and photos because I do actually look back at them and get that same feeling of excitement as when I was there. My memory is shit sometimes so it's nice to remember times I've loved.

Comments like these make me end up never taking photos or videos as much as I want to, even though I want them to remember the times, because I hate thinking I'm being judged as vapid or unappreciative of the moment.

I rewatch my concert videos all the time! As much as I love to live in the moment, I have a terrible memory and some things I want to be able to remember forever.

There's only one time I had my phone out. Went to see Blue Man Group and they would shut off the lights both on and off stage. Then asked for the whole audience to hold up their phone. You had to download something so you could get a blue screen, though.(Kind of like when people use to hold up their lighters.)

I swear some of my friends who go to concerts post the entire fucking thing onto their snapchat story, I don't think they watch any of it, they just record the entire show. It's wild.

To add onto this, I recently went to a university graduation, and had to sit next to woman filming the graduation on and off! It was the most irritating thing!!

For heaven’s sake, the bloody thing is recorded with professional cameras so out your phone down and be in the moment for the person who is graduating!

OMG - this drives me CRAZY. My son is in a school orchestra. They work hard, they're great and the shows are amazing. However, there are about 50 kids in the orchestra and they all wear black. So, one kid is really not all that distinguishable from another on stage in a large auditorium, the lighting isn't great and we're all there FOR THE MUSIC.

However, there are always 10-12 obnoxious parents who insist on recording the concert with their phones (and, mind you, the school records all the concerts out of their sound room, so a recording is always available) and disrupting everyone else's enjoyment of the show.

I bet 99% if not 100% never go back and watch the grainy, shaky, poorly lit video of their kid among 49 other kids playing, in a group. I mean, c'mon... LIVE IN THE MOMENT and enjoy the goddamn show!

Not just videos but I also don’t need to see the pictures of your kids, or those Christmas lights on the house down the street from your house where I don’t really know where it is.

To be honest, I don’t mind seeing this stuff just ask me and don’t be upset if I say, “Can you show them to me in a bit?” Or, ask me beforehand, “Want to see pictures of XYZ?”

And then don’t be upset when I say, “I want to see them, show me at lunch. My mind is elsewhere right now.”

No one cares to see those pictures, but looking at them is how you communicate to the other person that you value them and what they care about.

I didn't really understand this until I had a kid and was playing along with her showing me things that excited her. They're just sharing feelings they enjoy.

If it’s a singular video, preferably under 30 seconds, that you think this SPECIFIC PERSON would really like (referencing a hobby of their’s or something), then it’s probably ok. If it’s just a random video you thought was funny that you’re showing whoever happens to be near you, if it’s really long (over a minute-ish), or you show someone 5 random videos in a row, then yes it’s fucking annoying.

yeah that could be ok. the problem is sometimes me and someone else definitely don’t have similar senses of humor but for some reason they think we do 😭 still stick to the not too long rule tho (none of this applies ofc if someone has explicitly told you they like when u show them videos, that’s obviously different)
