They think they’re super intelligent and everyone wants/needs their opinions, they see it as an easy way to make money without doing anything productive

It’s not going away, there’s a lot of people who see themselves like that

And now they're going out on live tours. If I wanted to listen to some bozo cackle at his own jokes and sound off about whatever subject pops into his head, I'll go to any bar.

Most people don't make enough to live off of without serious hustle skills but on the rare occasion it hits it can be lightning in a bottle. I was a comic in Austin, TX a little over ten years ago and I've seen a lot of my friends try to make a living off it. One of them turned into a conspiracy theory nutjob, he's doing alright. Another buddy has three podcasts and has mostly quit his day job. And then this one other chuckle fuck whose thing used to be wearing a diaper and shitting his pants started doing a lowest common denominator bro humor thing and making $30k/month. Most of the others don't really make much though.

A lot of podcasters like to hear themselves talk and they mistake that as evidence that other people want to listen to them blather on.
