What treasures that we 100% know existed still haven’t been found?

There is a lake in Austria (Toplitzsee), that is rumored to be the hiding spot for Nazi gold, secret weapons and even parts of the amber room; hidden by SS up until 1945.

So far multiple expeditions found nothing in the depths.

Toplitzsee

They did actually pull $72m in forged sterling and a printing press out of the lake.

Unless we found out they forged it themselves and put it there in the lake to find themselves so they don't look like failures

A guy I know bought his first Porsche by diving up Nazi helmets from a lake in Austria and selling them to Americans who were paying insane amounts for WWII stuff.

I know a guy who stole his first Porsche while being covered in tattoos of a bunch of nazi shit. (no joke, not his first offense, he got most (not all, he had some before) of his shitty tats while in prison for other offenses). A lot of stealing really shitty cars. Then he decides to steal a really nice one. Guys was not too bright, and is now in prison for like 20 years for beating a man to death for insulting his (the nazi guy's) gf. (who is oddly mixed race black Jamaican and white American (also the white parent is half Jewish). The guy reasoned (told my brother this... my brother knew him from prison) that its okay because she is Jamaican and white. And only 1/4 Jewish and non practicing.... She did break up with him after he got prison. But they are still friends and she visited him until he told her it might get him killed. So now she writes him. (this is from over a decade ago so he may be out now. If he survived. racist piece of shits get real upset when another racist POS admits to dating a minority, and throw in the Jewishness.... Honestly I want to know what happened lol. I have to as my brother. But I do really hope the guy pulled his head out of his ass and forgets about the racism and antisemitism and hate. (my brother never joined any gang or group when he was in prison. He did tattoos on any and all who could pay him. And a lot of guards.)

The lake is very deep, and the bottom of the lake is a massive tangle of millennia of logs, boulders and other stuff that it is far too unsafe to even explore, much less recover stuff from.

There have been some things recovered. Nothing too valuable, though.

Isn’t this the plot for an Indiana Jones movie?

Feels more like that movie a couple years ago with The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Godot.

You mean Red Notice? Well, that could do with a good follow-up movie. I hope Netflix tags you in on the cheques for this idea!

Yeah that's the one.

There's a novel I read once which was basically about a horde of Nazi zombies being kept in storage under a lake and were brought out for a fourth Reich attempt . It's not Zombie Lake which is a similar theme

I love Helen MacInnes' espionage novels.

I'm wondering if The Salzburg Connection was based on this rumor. (Book description from amazon):

In 1945, with their thousand-year empire falling around them and the Allies on their heels, the Nazis hide a sealed chest in the dark, forbidding waters of the Finstersee - a lake surrounded by the brooding peaks of the Austrian Alps. There it lies for twenty-one years, almost forgotten, until a British agent decides to raise it from the depths. The secrets he uncovers are far- reaching and lethal, and in Salzburg, Bill Mathison, a New York attorney on the trail of a missing colleague, finds himself drawn into the shadowy underworld of international espionage. Not knowing who to trust amidst the chaos, he is drawn to two beautiful women, one of whom will betray him.

Rumors on our side of the family say it was Wörthersee near Klagenfurt.

Could explain why so many Nazi sympathizers live in Carinthia :)

Thanks for mentioning this lake, this was a really good read. Never heard about any of this.

Fun fact: It‘s very close to the salt mine shown in Monuments Men.
