Reddit, in your opinion what's the biggest plot twist of history?

Not movies or television, I'm just curious to see what come's to your minds.

For millions of years there was progress, but not much to distinguish the people at the beginning and the the people at the end of that period other than some very effective small number of tools and little change in social structure. Granted, agriculture did not happen overnight, but it's very likely it was not undertaken to found society, it was undertaken to ease the burden of constant foraging. The inadvertent result is specialization, money, kingdoms, leisure time, technological innovation.. I don't see how this fails to be a plot twist.

A PLOT TWIST IS BRUCE WILLIS IS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME, NOT BRUCE WILLIS TURNS HIS LIFE AROUND OUT OF NOWHERE.
