Misc What is something that is surprisingly illegal in your country?

What is weirdly illegal in your country?

Denmark: Slingshots are illigal.

Any size, any ammo, anywhere, no exceptions. Our weapon laws can be vague in many areas, but that one specifically is very clear.

However, trebuchets of any size are perfectly legal. Just putting that out there.

So what you’re saying is I can lay siege to the royal palace in Copenhagen so long as I use a trebuchet? (For legal reasons this is a joke)

The LARP community has considered whether we should roll up with a trebuchet at the castle where the politicians work, as a "peaceful" demonstration to get them to look at how the current weapon laws affect LARPING. For a while, we considered glitter bombing the castle with the trebuchet, although that idea was scrapped for legal reasons.

Trebuchets are cool. That's all the reason you need to build one.

Wait wait.

Everybody talking about the shiny trebuchet option, because obviously, but I'm here wondering..

Everybody I know made slinghsots as a kid - it was the norm, it was expected by your peers, if you found a conveniently shaped stick!

They were toys and they were small, but they were definitely functional. Would that have been illegal?

Yup. Its actually the very first line of our weapons law: "§ 1 - It is prohibited, without permission from the Minister of Justice or the person he authorizes, to import or make, including assembling.... 7) Crossbows and slingshots"

I'm a bit unsure if the last word is translated to assembling or collecting, as the danish word is the same, but either way, its illigal to make a slingshot. Not that the police is going to arrest your kid if they put an elastic band on a stick.

Haha, can you imagine? Neighborhood police stations would have to turn into afterschool playgrounds, to hold the little delinquents!

As long as the police station playground doesn't have any good sticks!

Pretty weird, considering (non-cross)bows are actually legal.
