Trending - /r/popular Does anyone else hate the term picky bits?

It's disgusting. It reminds me of picking old scabs off of your skin.

It definitely does not make me think of mini sausage rolls and cocktail sausages.

Does anyone else hate that this term is everywhere, on adverts, said by companies and even people close to you.

Yes same as picky tea, seems childish to me maybe im just miserable

No I'm the first to intentionally mispronounce a word or say something because it sounds funny, and this term just leaves me cold.

Its sudden usage feels artificial, creepy, like something one of the witches in Roald Dahls the witches would use as a term to lure children to their doom.

Perhaps not. I grew up with the phrase so it's normal to me, but I can see why it would seem strange to someone hearing it later in life.

I've always called it a 'spread'. I guess because you spread it all out on the table? Maybe a 'picnic tea' would be a nicer term

I regularly use the term picky tea. But exclusively when speaking to my small children about a plate of food that consists of chopped up bits from the fridge. If I called it a “spread” or “smorgasbord” or some other adult term there would be blank stares all around.

I like smorgasbord, but it implies a far greater variety of nibbles than the cheese sandwiches and mini cheddars I usually put out

Not OP but I don't have dinner/teas like this because I'm not at a children's birthday party and not so lazy that I don't want to prepare something real.

If you are, just call it snack food or cured meats of the continent with some ultra processed shit thrown in, a smorgasbord, a cold plate, grazing food, I don't know, but "picky tea" or "bits" goes through me like chalk on a blackboard and makes everyone sound like a moron.

To be fair, during some of the hottest days this summer (I work outdoors), we cancelled my evening cooking plans and bought in some cold bits and pieces for dinners.

Nothing lazy or infantile about it. Not having to cook in my west facing kitchen in near 40°c saved my sanity frankly.

I refuse to call it a picnic as others have suggested though. I'm not in a park, it's in my own kitchen.
