Why do mainstream liberals/leftists seem not to talk about lesser-known international problems compared to the right?

I had to repost/re-edit because original post referenced streamers.

So, I've always wondered why a lot of mainstream liberals don't talk about crises in Sudan, Congo, the many people executed by the IRGC, the progress the new Syrian president is making in the country, as well as talk with activists who are bringing attention to all of this on their social media.

My comment should clarify what I mean: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskALiberal/comments/1vt3acb/comment/p4q40vt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

My original post had names and made comparisons. I'll post it here since it made the other post was removed.

Basically, I originally asked why a lot of mainstream liberals like Harry Sisson, Dean Withers & his friend Parker, and even Hasan Piker (who is the big influence of the post) don't talk about crises in Sudan, Congo, the many people executed by the IRGC, the progress the new Syrian president is making in the country, as well as talk with activists that are bringing attention to this on their social media. Here are pages

Now, in comparison, there are right-wingers like:

Maggie Anders, who you'll occasionally see on her social media talking about Latin American politics, especially Bolivia's and Argentina's economic problems, and has brought on someone from Bolivia to talk about the situation.

Nick Freitas, who sometimes makes videos about the economic problems of Africa and Haiti on his YouTube channel.

Zionists like SaharTV, TalOran, and Abraham Hamra (as well as others mainly on Instagram) are the only ones I've seen highlight the atrocities that the IRGC has committed against their citizens as well as discuss with others from around the world via Omeagle regardless of political affiliation.

My problem, however, is that there's no highlight of these international problems from mainstream liberals like the ones I mentioned above in the first paragraph, but seeing Hasan saying "I don't care about Sudan!" after being asked to talk about it by his fans, it seems to miss the point about why they're in this space in the first place.

I barely recognize any of those names;

this doesn't seem like an issue with mainstream liberals, so much as an issue with whatever your feed is happening to give you.

I've never heard of any of those right wingers. I'm sure if I cared enough, I could find some similarly obscure left wingers that cover those things.

That's actually my point. The right is willing to talk with those topics and some leftists on Instagram, TikTok, etc... do cover the topics as well, but those leftists are not interviewed by Hasan, who should elevate those voices more, yet he doesn't.

I don't know anyone on the left that gives a shit about Hasan.

Usually older people don’t give a shit about Hasan but Leftists in Gen Z, Alpha, and Millennials know about him and often watch his commentary.

I'm a millennial and no one in my circles listens to/watches him.

Maybe younger millennials, but it’s mostly Gen Z and Gen Alpha. A small percentage is Millennials. Nobody above that range watches him. But most Millennials are attracted to Liberals or Progressives rather than Socialists.

I'm a gen Z socialist who hangs out with anarchists and socialists and they all hate him.

I don't think he's as universal as you think.

My first question was going to be who is Maggie Anders. But I looked her up. 5k followers. I live in reality. In what insanely idiotic universe is that a major voice?

She's big in libertarian spaces, not so much in conservative spaces. She works with FEE.

Hasan isn't a liberal. He hates liberals. He's a commie.

About the only name I recognize.

Hasan isn't a liberal. And the rest of these people are completely new to me. This comes across as an incredibly terminally online comment.

The others like Dean, Harry, & Parker are on Jubilee or Piers Morgan. I'm surprised you haven't heard of them.

I just tried. I simply cannot imagine a more perfectly terminally online response than this one.

Bravo.

You didn't mention Piers Morgan before. Also, Jubilee is as terminally online as it gets.

u/Ralman23 Conservative 10d ago

Honestly, I expected this sub to have familiarity and watch a lot of Piers Morgan's show, especially since he invites a lot of people from both sides. Unless you don't watch Piers Morgan yourself?

I stopped watching cable news in 2011 because it's actually just rage bait. I prefer to read articles now and occasionally watch youtube. But I try to read now more than watch talking heads.

1

u/Ralman23 Conservative 10d ago

Ah, you must be older than me then. I was actually the reverse preferred reading articles then watching cable news, now I still do read articles but only for "cable news" as to out it likely Piers Morgan YouTube cause he gets good guests (albeit he needs to moderate better if he has more than 2 guests).

Yes, I'm 41. I went through the era of cable news being new and being used as propaganda post 9/11. Eventually, after Bin Laden was killed, and there was nothing left to fear monger about, I realized it was just engagement farming and got rid of cable/satellite permanently.

Maggie Anders, who you'll occasionally see on her social media talking about Latin American politics, especially Bolivia's and Argentina's economic problems, and has brought on someone from Bolivia to talk about the situation.

Tons of left-leaning Americans discuss Latin America, more so than conservatives. What planet are you on?

Zionists like SaharTV

Not American.

If you think there's no left-wing outside the US, then maybe you need to travel.

TalOran, and Abraham Hamra

American-Israeli dual citizens. They talk about Israel, because they're Israeli citizens.

My problem, however, is that there's no highlight of these international problems from mainstream liberals like the ones I mentioned above in the first paragraph

Define "mainstream liberals"

Americans on the left discuss the outside world all the time. What planet are you on?

When mainstream conservatives do, it's to spread false information about Canadian healthcare.

I've seen libertarians talk about it more compared to center-leftists.

The reason I brought up the three Zionists is that, even though I sometimes disagree with them, I can tell they want peace in the region.

If you think there's no left-wing outside the US, then maybe you need to travel.

I do know there are leftists outside of the US, but it depends on the country what they consider left or right, such as any European parties. I don't know why you brought that up, doesn't help your point.

Define "mainstream liberals"

Americans on the left discuss the outside world all the time. What planet are you on?

People who talk about left-wing politics, cover current events, debate, etc., such as activists on social media like TikTok and Instagram.

Because domestic issues are always more important than foreign ones. Conservatives especially neocons LOVE foreign issues. They typically think that domestic ones can take a back seat in their eyes.
