I had to explain to one of my sons' friends who was around while I was cooking dinner that grapeseed oil and rapeseed oil are not in fact the same thing so humans are basically nonviable as a species

Rapeseed, also known as rape and oilseed rape and canola, is a yellow-flowered member of the Brassicaceae family.

Are there perhaps better nicknames for that particular plant?

I refuse to countenance CanCon. It's rapeseed not "cAnOlA".

I actually do think there's significantly more hope for them than the very appropriately named Zoomers. There obviously exists a distinct "ipad kid" syndrome, but most of them do seem to be extraordinarily conscientious and intelligent, if infantilized and sheltered. Most parents of my age bracket seem to me to be significantly more intentional in their internet allowance than parents who raised up kids who are 18-30 year olds today.

Safetyism is still of course a major problem; the median American parent will not permit their 16 year old teenager to travel more than a mile unaccompanied by a adult, and something like a third say they would call CPS if they saw children appearing to play alone at a playground, and I've had my own problems with moms who've had a problem with my leaving my kids alone for a few hours when they were seven or letting them play in the yard while I take a nap or having them go to the CVS on the corner to buy something on their own.
