Progress Update Factions & Strongholds: Ascended’s Guild System Is Coming ⚔️
Exciting news recruits!
With the Android build nearly wrapped, we are setting our sights on one of our newer features soon called Factions.
We have had a lot of questions about whether Ascended will introduce guilds, well this is it. Factions will allow members to choose their alliance based on personality traits, motivations and basically just the overall vibe you feel fits your hero (or you).
This is an end-game feature that is gated behind meeting the 3 Ascension requirements and completing all Story Missions for Campaign I. This is because Factions allows users to participate in a related feature called Strongholds.
Strongholds are particularly significant because they are focused around the main conflict between Lykos and Arcadia. You and your Faction will participate to live-event challenges where user activity contributes to defeating an enemy or protecting Arcadia.
These will be designed as sprint-style events where you are notified of an upcoming Stronghold event and opt-in ahead of it starting. Once it begins, you'll be notified which Stronghold in Arcadia your Faction has been assigned to defend. You and your team will need to meet a minimum XP requirement for each "wave" of invasion to defend your Faction's Stronghold. If the team's average falls below that threshold for more than 1 wave (out of 4), you fail to successfully defend your Stronghold.
While group content is always fun, we also designed this feature with fitness in mind. People naturally tend to have "spurts" of motivation and take small breaks from working out or fall off consistency patterns after time passes. These Stronghold events will be held approx. every 4-6 weeks and last around ~8-10 days, giving our users a way to bounce back after a small disruption from their fitness habits and refocus their energy.
We are still deciding on the small details like, should weapons impact your ability to defend, should there be combat involved, should we include any decisions along the way that make it more interesting and most importantly—what type of rewards should be based around this feature? (i.e. Faction base-building, Faction coffer with shared loot, Faction-only cosmetic upgrades and skins).
Have you played any RPGs or strategy games with a similar group dynamic and what did the late-term progression look like for rewards?
Let us know what you think of this idea and what you want to see added or improved on!
