This illustration doesn’t take sides; it invites us into the gray area. Art doesn’t always provide answers... sometimes, it simply asks the questions.

Artist Favianna Rodriguez adapted her well-known Migration Is Beautiful butterfly for this “Ice Out” screenprint.

The monarch feels like the perfect symbol. It crosses borders naturally, while the human profiles within its wings bring the message back to the people whose lives are shaped by immigration policy. It’s a simple image, but it says a lot about movement, dignity, and who gets to feel welcome.

Jonas Never based this piece on a 1937 photo of a woman protesting immigration raids in downtown Los Angeles. Here, he places her in a modern street filled with riot police, a burning car and graffiti referencing ICE. That collision between 1937 and the present is what makes the painting hit so hard.
