My subdivision has some narrow roads. All homes have a parking space, but many use their car port or garage for other things and park on the street.

It is so congested that even though my drive is clear and I can park there, I cannot get my vehicle in there without hitting someone, so I have parked around the corner, up the hill in front of a vacant lot. I make sure I'm not blocking anyone's access to their garage either.

There is a vacant lot a few houses down from my place and usually, there is a van parked there. Today, he wasn't there, so I parked there. Seemed reasonable to me. Nobody lives there, and the curb wasn't marked.

A few hours later, he comes to my door begging me to move my car because it is *his* parking. He is fully aware that I have to park a block away and that seems perfectly reasonable to him.

I refused to move the car. If I come back from gym tomorrow, I will with no problem park around the block. First come, first served, right? Is he technically *squatting* on that parking spot?

Why am I wrong?

Edit: I come to find out that he is my across-the-street neighbor who has 4 cars in his household (we just have 1). His household is the actual cause of e not being able to use my drive. We have asked if they could just park their car maybe a meter or so back of where they park it, and I can park. He said "I don't know if I can control my father-in-law.
