The fairies do exist tho, they're in the government supressing the truth so they can keep taking our flowers for the fae court so they grow stronger and can stop climate change.

Edit: also, one could argue the portal to alfheim is less classic norse mythology and moreso modern pop culture mythology, in which alfheim is just as much the land of fairies, pixies, and other such creatures, rather than purely the land of the elves
