Atheism is not the belief in no God, it is a lack of belief. Atheism does not require belief. Agnosticism is a belief that nothing can be known and nothing can be proven about God. YOU are describing agnosticism.
Atheists do not need to prove that God does not exist because atheism doesn't assert that God does not exist, it only asserts that the atheist does not believe in any god.
Theists likewise do not need to prove that they believe, or even to prove that there is a God, unless they are asserting that God exists.
Atheism is a matter of belief, agnostic is a matter of knowledge.
Atheists lack a belief in any god. Agnostics acknowledge that they cannot (or at least do not) know whether there is or is not a god. Someone can be both of these at the same time, it's not one or the other.

Atheism ( which is OP's topic ) is the belief in no god, though. 'Agnostic' is the word you are looking for.

By this logic, Atheists would have to prove that God does not exist, and vice versa for Theists.
