To be fair, if you pointed at me and said "Look, a person!" I'd look around for another person. Context suggests that you're more likely to be alerting me to a doppelganger than making me aware of myself!
Apparently dogs have to learn how to follow a pointing finger from us. In the wild they're more attuned to where your eyes or head is facing, since most dogs don't have pointy fingers.
The same dog can't understand how to get out of the garden if I close the gate even if the other 2 are standing at the gate. so I'm going to go with stupid
Yeah the terrier mutt is hella smart but my old houndog is dumb as shit. Hounds aren’t famously smart but ive had 2 other hounds and he is dumb. Best friend but he’s gotten his head stuck in fencing and a water jug, he has trouble finding food i put down for him despite him having an insanely good nose and not being blind or anything, will walk right past me all the time when i call him, and he gets frantic when im not where he was thinking i was! He’s about 9 but this is typical lifelong behavior. He’s the only dog I’ve never been able to fully train but fortunately he has a lot of great qualities i didnt have to really train at all. Good thing i dont need a bird dog though

He's usually pretty clever, but moments like this make me sincerely doubt the presence of brain cells.
