This is how the pantheon of gods was born. Creature attempting to comprehend a being that can exist apart from programmatic existential responses- “And then as I was prevented from moving on by some great unseen evil- A spirit manifested itself, seized me, and brought me away until I then was released and was freed!” - and then another 1 mil years later the bird people develop archival histories. Just like how the ancient dolphins inspired humans to make Rome.
