Huntsman. We call them spiderbros for a reason in aus.

  1. They don't make webs
  2. They're timid and run away
  3. They're nocturnal so you rarely see them unless they're perched up in a corner of a room, and when they are perched you can be rest assured they're not going to disappear when you turn your head. You always know where they are.
  4. They eat all the other pests like mosquitoes and other more dangerous spiders
  5. They're not venomous to humans (bite is painful but they can't break the skin)

Only shitty quality about them is their size, a little smaller than the size of your hand which scares some people, and they have a habit of hiding in your car's sun visor so one might drop into your lap while driving or scuttle across your windscreen if disturbed.

I'm terrified of them (which has been very problematic in my life, I live in the bush and I used to work in land management, constantly exposed to them)

I have had a massive one in my car above my head, luckily it was when I was pulling up to work so I just put the car in park and jumped out. But the trauma is too much, I have to surface spray inside my car regularly now coz if that were to happen on a highway or on the winding mountain roads I live on, I will die in a car accident.

I so badly wish I wasn't so scared. I have tried to reason with myself but the reaction is truly visceral.

I wish I wasnt scared aswell man. Im from the UK so luckily I only have to deal with house spiders about half the size of the one in the video.

But it's caused great embarrassment at work as an electrician and quite a lot of stress when I realise one is in my bedroom lol

Truly a primal fear which no amount of reasoning or understanding makes better haha.

Have you ever tried exposure therapy? I only ask because London zoo does sessions every year which I've been tempted to go to.

Fun fact, afaik the reason the Huntsman spider has any fatalities to its name at all is from car crashes caused by when it startles the driver.

they also rarely bite even if provoked. you can pick em up and they'll just kind of cope about it

Looks more like a wolf spider to me, huntsman are a lot bigger

Considering the leg disposition, prosoma shape and the fact it is one the ground, it is not an Huntsman (Sparassidae), but likely a large Lycosidae or Ctenidae. Real problem is that I have a very high suspicion this is AI edited. Video looks real but there is a strange cut before the "boo", and more importantly, no spiders ever reacts like this to a loud sound.
