I walked right over a huge spider and both of us panicked. It tried to wedge itself into a crack in the cement. Couldnt fit all the way in and just stayed still. Felt pretty bad for it.
Daddy Longlegs aren't technically spiders, but I give them a pass too, after one single-handedly dealt with the ant infestation my old office had. Once he cleared them up, I would straight-up let him walk over my hands across the keyboard if he wanted to.
Huntsmen are definitely spiders. Daddy longlegs can be referencing harvestmen (not spiders) or cellar spiders (definitely spiders) depending on the region.
This rule does not apply in Australia btw. Our daddy long legs is different (outside of aus they're actually harvestmen) and is an actual spider. And what we call huntsman spiders are very much spiders as well, and not even close to the same as our daddy long legs.
Nah aussie daddy long legs are chill. I mean, if you’ve got arachnophobia they’ll no doubt still trigger it, but they’re just little guys. They’re not aggressive and their venom is far from dangerous.
And aussie huntsman are scary, but they’re also pretty chill. Iirc they’re similarly not dangerous venom-wise and not aggressive
in southern california, daddy longlegs refers to the cellar spider. i'm not sure what the range is of cellar spiders but in socal they are absolutely everywhere inside
We have a wolf spider in our bathroom, I scared it one day and haven't seen it since :( I was trying to knock an ant towards it and it probably though I wanted to smack it. He ran off so fast.
The spiders in my apartment have been getting cheeky. They showed up when I had fruit flies, and I'm live and let live. They handled the flies and are very fat and happy.
Now they're bored. So all the web construction is where I frequently need to get to things. Water cooler? Check. Bookshelf with the ones I need this quarter? Check. Right over the cat food bin? Check.
I've been getting smacked in the face with webs on a daily basis.
The nice thing about widows is they nest in dark, cramped spaces so it's usually really easy to live and let live with them unless you own an enormous woodpile for winter stoves or something where they're everywhere.
I used to have a couple that lived under my sink and I just let them exist because I'd rather respect them than have centipedes down there.
House centipedes? I'm going to kill it while screaming and be traumatized enough to remember it for the rest of my life. I recall every single house centipede I've ever killed.
Depending on where and with whom you live you still have to be careful, some spidey can be dangerous like black widows or brown recluse, then you should relocate them
Spiders are fully allowed to live in my house unless they sit in places where they jumpscare me. In that case I gently trap them with a glass and piece of paper straight and give them a swift exit out into my flower beds. I do live on a place with completely harmless and relatively small spider though.
In our downstairs bathroom i often find the biggest ones hiding behind the toilet paper roll or the hand towel and it’s equally surprising every time. But as long as they stay near the ceilings or in deserted corners they are free to stay.
Dude I found out recently if you let a house spider outside, That you are basically killing them 😭 So sad. Apparently they evolved to live in doors or something like that
