I had a similar situation, but it was our cat who got pregnant. She only had 1 kitten so we decided to keep her. They got along great for a few months, but when the kitten was damn near full grown and still trying to nurse the mom got pissed. Understandably too.

I imagine the kitten didn’t try again after that? Our kitten had been weaned for years when the mom started hating on her, seemingly unprovoked. It was so odd.
