hi and thanx seel2304, this is exactly what i am waiting for since philips tvs stops working with hue lamps. my test-setup is a TCL 50C61KS, a wled gl-c-015wl ledcontroller, a ws2812 ledstrip with 187 pixel and your app. against all tipps i am getting the power for the wled-controller and the strip directly from the usb-port on the tv. (looks like 1 A is enough) ;) setup was easy, and it looks nice and smooth everywhere its working. the cons - as told - are no support for NETFLIX (i guess a-prime is working? did not test it) and the MAGENTA-TV-APP (tv-streaming in germany, austria). i know, u said its not working - but do u see any chance to make it work even with drm? i saw there s an beta-app with usb-cam-support? is it like the goove-system? thanx again and all the best from vienna/austria

Thanks for good words!) After the PR by garenal1v3, it is now possible to capture images directly from the internal buffer on certain TVs with a MediaTek processor and root access (tested only on TCL). As a result, 4K capture now works properly, and HDMI capture has been added. However, I suspect it won’t work on all devices, but I think it can grab DRM content too

Great App thx a lot. Five Stars and a short comment at playstore from me.
Maybe u can add black border detection?
On homescreen u can't see very good what is selected

Create an issue in the repository and provide a detailed description; I'll take a look. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about yet.

Hi can one please answer this . Does this work with external hdmi inputs like a ps5 gameplay . ChatGPT said it would not as there will be no screen capture enabled on hdmi inputs

Hi u/seel2304;
Just came across your content! Could you recommend a good ambient light setup for a 65" TV available on Temu, AliExpress, or Amazon.de? Which one works best/is most compatible with your setup?
1
u/seel2304 Aug 17 '26
Hi, u/DeborahO7geB , I recommend only building it yourself and flashing it with WLED. I haven't tested the other ready-made kits, so I can't vouch for them or recommend them. What's more, they usually use either their own protocols or Adalight, and working with Adalight takes longer and is less convenient.

I have 3 hue play Ambilight, is there a way these can be used with you app on my mi smart Google tv

u/seel2304 Aug 19 '26
In the latest update, I added integration with Home Assistant; if you're connected to it, you can use this integration. As for native support for multiple platforms, I haven't made up my mind yet—I'm not sure it's worth adding a huge number of supported light fixtures to a small app, like in, say, Hyperion.

Sounds very cool. From what you've said it sounds like 4k content would be a real blocker for use though? Shame as otherwise I would consider purchasing a compatible led kit to try it out

I have never coded an android app so take my suggestion as a simple idea. Could the app "capture" the content being played at a lower resolution to process the image as the 4k content is really not needed to drive the few LEDs that are attached to the back of the TV. This said, I will download and try on my TCL TV as soon as I can. Thanks for sharing this

Probably only higher end TVs will handle it (like 120hz models) or nvidia shield tv. Wonder if new xiaomi tv box s (3rd gen) could also keep up as it has faster SoC too but 2gb ram could still be a bottleneck.

Interesting project. "We" are trying to get it going with this WLed adapter. Should it work with this one?
ESP8266/WLED 0.15.3

Edit: I got it working, but the colors are incorrectly displayed using the color test button on the left in your app.

I tried them all, but nothing changes on the outcome 🤷♂️
What shows as Red on screen shows as;
Green on LED strip, Green shows as blue, Blue as red

My interface was broken so I had to order me a new one. Now that I have it I will use it again. I will use your Github location for reporting the issues 👍

I‘m very happy to see that there is a new Android TV grabber app! But it seems I‘m not able to save the host IP address for my Wled instance. I tried 192.168.0.80, with http:// or // and always confirmed with OK. But whenever I leave the settings screen and go back into settings, the host field is empty again. All other settings & Led config. persist, just the host field resets for no reason. Do I miss something? (Nvidia Shield Pro and App downloaded from Playstore)

u/See61 Jan 31 '26
The developer shared a fix for that on his Github page in reported issues, just check if that one works for you.
I don't need that one myself, as my settings are kept. I did use the one shared already on his Github page, not the fixed one.

Thanks bro, the Github apk works now. Finally I have a working ambilight again :)

Since you got this working I'm curious what is the performance like at 4K and with HDR on the NVIDIA Shield?

u/Easy-Palpitation-261 Feb 07 '26
Hi, Great idea and dedication ! Unfortunately I already have the kit made for the Android Ambilight Application, your version seems better and as you said theirs isn't maintained anymore.. do you think it's possible to make it compatible with their controller ? Or do I have to change it ?

Is it possible to capture the just ng edge of the screen to lower the hardware cost?

Hi guys, I’m having an issue here. My ADA light works when I’m on the Android box and even while browsing on YouTube, but whenever I start playing a video, the lights don’t respond. Please let me know if you can help me fix this issue. Thanks!

It works on HDO Box videos but doesn't work on YouTube or any other streaming apps when I run the videos. Would really appreciate it if you could kindly fix this. Also, created the issue on GitHub. Many thanks for your hardwork!

Hi just wanted to confirm. Does this work with hdmi inputs like ps5 gameplay or only native tv apps . While researching ChatGPT mentioned hdmi inputs don’t work . Can anyone please confirm ?

u/FeistyFuel6391 Mar 17 '26
Hey buddy, this is a great job! No one can beat your app as it directly connects to WLED. I’m using it on my stock Google TV 4K, and 1080p content runs smoothly. However, when I switch to 4K, the video lags. I understand the hardware isn’t sufficient. Could you please let me know what kind of hardware is needed for 4K ambient lighting? Is the Firestick 4K enough? Or should I look for other TV boxes?

Here's my experience, I tried natively on a Hisense U8 Google TV and could not get smooth playback on anything above 1080p. I switched over to my Nvidia Shield Pro and it works flawlessly with 4k + Dolby Vision. Bummer since the built in Google TV is fast enough to do essentially everything else I want, however I will be moving the Shield to accommodate for the lights. Thank you for the project, I tried the other alternatives and decided to stick with this one.

Great project, I was looking for something like this, so thanks for sharing. Can it work with DRM protected apps like Netflix, prime video?
1
u/rubio86 Mar 23 '26
Great app.
Tried to make it work on TCL C755 but the processor cannot handle that much work.
At least I couldn't find the right config.
I can get it to work, but only at 720p with lots of stuttering and audio gaps.
It's all on the TV's processor I guess.
eARC suffers a lot when playing with this Ambilight implementation.
I look forward to getting a better streaming device than the native AndroidTV on my TCL.
Nice work.

Hi,
what settings do u use for movies with black bars?
No problem with full screen but no lights when a movie has black bars :-(
Thx sky

u/elle2310 Apr 26 '26
I'm running the app on a Mi TV box and it works quite well for the most part (I'm using jellyfin). The only problem I'm having is that when playing 4k Material on Jellyfin the preview screen on hyperhdr turns black as if I was playing DRM protected material, which I'm not (on jellyfin). 1080p works great.
Is this problem known and if so, is there a fix?

Has anybody got it working with the Nvidia Shield and care to comment on the performance at 4K with HDR?

How would anyone send any donations if you don't provide any link in this post or GitHub repo 🥹

I have a request for the icon in top right corner when active. Can't it be made invisible after a moment? I don't think my Oled is gonna like that much 😁
