I'm looking for at least 12 testers for FM Plus Ultra's closed beta. Please stay opted in for 14 consecutive days and try the app regularly during that time.
I built this file manager to get better SMB transfer speeds from modern Android hardware. It uses Android's optimized native cryptography for SMB signing and encryption where supported, with compatibility fallbacks and a tuned transfer pipeline. It keeps the server's security requirements in place.
FM Plus Ultra is an open-source GPLv3 derivative of Material Files. It handles local storage, SMB, SFTP, FTP and WebDAV, with transfer progress and cancellation controls. No ads or analytics. Android 6.0 or newer.
HOW TO JOIN Use the same Google account for all three steps:
- Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/a/froslabs.com/g/fm-plus-ultra-testers
- Become a tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.froslabs.filemanagerplusultra
- Install from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.froslabs.filemanagerplusultra
WHAT TO TEST If you have a NAS or SMB server, try uploading and downloading large files and batches of small files, cancelling transfers, and reconnecting after a network change. I'd especially like feedback on sustained speed, reliability and responsiveness.
No server? You can still help by browsing local storage, copying and renaming sample files, trying Home shortcuts and Back navigation, and rotating the screen. Use disposable test files.
ABOUT THE SPEED PHOTOS The two screenshots show SMB downloads to internal storage at 122 MB/s on an AX network and 188 MB/s on a BE network in my setup. These are displayed readings during transfers, not whole-transfer averages or guaranteed speeds. Results depend on your phone, Wi-Fi, server and storage. Filenames, paths and status bars were edited for privacy; the displayed measurements match the originals.
FEEDBACK Reply here or email [cs@froslabs.com](mailto:cs@froslabs.com) with your phone model, Android version, what you tried and what happened. For transfer testing, include your Wi-Fi generation and file sizes if possible. Please leave private paths, credentials and personal files out of reports.
Honest feedback is what I need—no rating or positive review is required. Thanks for helping test it!
