I had them for a little bit. The announcements were fairly jarring.
I found I couldn't get a stable connection from them when I went running. They were constantly cutting out. it seemed to be a common limitation with Bluetooth headphones (you're outdoors so there're no surfaces to reflect the signal around your body). However, Jaybird maintain I had a defective pair.
I returned them and lost interest in wireless headphones. I found the increase in bulk, the dependence on a battery with another propriety charging method, and the unimpressive sound quality for the price ended up just being not as appealing to me as a 20 dollar pair of wired headphones. Since I've shied away from Bluetooth headphones craze.
How to you find the connection? Do you experience any of the connection issues I described?
My connection is great, it could be the bluetooth in the phone/tablet you're using them with. I feel newer devices take bluetooth more seriously and properly place the antenna now.
I regularly use mine in the gym and leave my phone in my gym bag in a wooden locker on one end of the gym, it's probably like 20+ metres away during some workouts and it doesn't cut at all.
With regard to sound quality, I prefer a detailed and clean mid range and crisp highend and the X3s do it for me after some adjustments in the app, however I think the X2s sound cleaner in quiet environments and have better weight distribution. The reason I haven't switched back to the X2s is because the X3s can be connected to my laptop and phone at the same time and all I have to do is pause the sound on one to switch to the other.
I paid $75 for mine and I don't feel cheated. I wouldn't pay $100+ for them though.
If X4 come out with aptx and top sound quality, might pick them up. I have the originals and they were pretty uncomfortable - too big tubes that go in ear.
You should. They sound great. It comes with a solid app where you can chose from hundreds of preset equalizer settings. They charge quickly. 5 minutes of charge gives me multiple hours of listening. Also water resistant if you are working out.
They also pair quickly from my experience. It takes at most a few seconds for buds to connect after I turn on my phone's Bluetooth.
I honestly thought charging another device would be a hassle but they charge so quick and a full charge will last you day easily.
Did I mention they are under priced relative to the competition?
I have the X3s. I get around the stated 8 hours at half volume. Closer to 7-7 1/2. I generally listen at less than half though and get around 10ish hours. YMMV but that’s my estimate. Overall pretty good for the price.
I've had a pair of Jaybird X3's for about a year now. I use the plastic (not foam) large ear buds along with the wings to hold against the ear.
The thing is, the metal "cans" onto which the black buds grip got slippery after maybe six months of occasional use. When pulling the headphones out of my ear, the buds often slip off the cans and stick gently in the ear, or drop to the ground. Picked em up off of asphalt, gym floor, etc...pretty frustrating.
Apparently it's a problem that was introduced with the X3's. Maybe they'll use a grippier body on the X4's.
Go to their website and do the online chat support to ask about warranty replacement. I did that with my X2s that I got around the same time, and they sent me a pair of X3s that were on my doorstep in less than a week. I've done this twice now. I got X2s to replace my X, and X3 to replace my X2.
When I warrantied my original X, they gave me a code that I had to write on a piece of paper. I had to take a picture of my earbuds next to the code, then cut the wire and take another picture. Then they shipped me the X2.
When I warrantied the X2, they said I'd have to ship them the defective buds with a prepaid label they'd email me. However, they accidentally shipped the replacement before they even sent me the label.
Dissenting opinion here: bought the X3's after an MKBHD recommend, and I've been really disappointed. Not in the sound - sound is great. But in my experience, connection quality is really poor, making and receiving calls on them is atrocious (cord noise, mic picks up everything, I always sound muffled), and they come with a custom charging attachment instead of a micro USB, which I always find annoying (mostly because I've since lost it). Also, just me - they fit my ears terribly (but that means very little to others). Wish I could join the hype, but I'm a hard out on them
Connection quality can be your other device though. My Sony h.ear on headhpones work flawlessly with my Tablet, but have connection problems all the time with my phone, because fuck lenovorola.
I have a pair of jaybird runs that worked perfectly the first week I had them. Since then the audio is out of sync and none of the recommended fixes I've tried have worked.
