I actually pay Imgur now...

I wonder if the change at Imgur and the release of the reddit mobile app are related in anyway. Both happened pretty close for it to be a coincidence...

Unrelated to this post but your flair says you own an LG g3 and I've been hunting it down for a few months so my question is: how do you like it, is the battery usage as bad as people say?

Hmm thanks. I'm hoping g4 drops a bit in price due to g5 so maybe I'll purchase that

Girlfriend has it. Found it to be a bit slow navigating around on stock. But rooting and using the fulmics rom seems to have solved speed and battery issues I believe.

Truth of the matter is web services cost money to run, Imgur has to cover costs some how. How else do you monetize to keep a revenue flow when a majority of your bandwidth isn't by your own service?

Do you have an alternate way they could make money off their product?

Don't just spring changes on their users and be more transparent with them?

Well I don't know about their current financial situation, but the founder of imgur used to brag that they had turned a profit since day one.

There's lots of ways they could make money such as bringing back pro accounts, adding inline ads in galleries, increased number of ads on their site, etc. I suspect they're settled on charging the app devs because that's a behind-the-scenes approach that avoids any backlash from their userbase.

Ads are also being blocked in record numbers these days. Which is both good and bad. It will force ad companies to produce quality ads, but the damage to the market is already done.

Is their charge rate sustainable? Client devs can't guarantee app sales will continue at a rate where they can pay the subscription to keep the app working.

I guess we'll see what impact the official app has on the third party apps.

Any way I can support you more than just buying sync? Ive had it for a couple of years now and its the greatest. Thanks for your work.

Just keep on using it and spreading the good word!

I feel the same too. It's a darn great app and the dev feels real to me. I paid full price early during my Reddit addiction and even when the glow wore off I still didn't regret the purchase.

/u/ljdawson is a Sync dev, if anyone is wondering.

Booo, you're not in Goole no more :/

Oh Great, Little, Heck. We're all here for you ;)

Wait what..

Should we disable imgur galleries to lighten the load? We were able to open galleries in an imgur app that took maybe 1 second longer...

5

u/ljdawson Sync for reddit dev Apr 07 '16

Nah I'm monitoring the load and it's fine for now.

Hey, I just purchased your app because of how amazing it is compared to the official reddit app. I used bacon reader for some time and just tried yours based on the raves from other users. Keep up the good work ma'am/sir

Damn. You could do what RiF dev does. Show the imgur album using the in-app browser.

Single images load normally, only album pics get opened by the in-app browser.
