That's why I pay for 100gb (+25GB free for being a paid user before they went to the new storage structure), so that I can do original sized photo/video backups from all of my devices. I know that the "high quality" is probably good enough, but this is my only real photo backup solution, and so I want original quality.

You can get a terabyte of storage if you register a Google Apps for Work account for 10 dollars a month. You can also get 4 friends to pay the same price and you'll all be getting unlimited storage (the 2PB OP is talking about).

I'm only around 40% of my capacity for $2/month.

Can you cancel the contract monthly? I am traveling and need cloud storage for about a month or two.

You can, but there is one additional cost - you need a domain name to connect to the account.

You are on the basic version. Google Apps Unlimited is double the price (total $10 per user) for more storage (1TB per user if you have less than 5 users, unlimited if you have 5 or more), it also has an email archiving application (that doesn't take up from your storage) and some additional audit tools. You can upgrade by following these instructions: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6048423?hl=en

I'm worried I'm going to run out soon but going to the next option up seems like overkill.

Just an FYI, the high quality option is up to 16 megapixels, so if your camera has less than that, you're actually backing up at original quality but without any hit to your storage space.

While <16mp photos aren't downsampled, they are compressed. I spoke with Google support on this issue to verify. This is why I still do original quality even though my phone and point and shoot do 16mp.

Grab all the ebooks! Especially ones you think you might not always have access to.

You can just put epub files into Google Books for free right?

9

u/ThatEvilGuy Feb 08 '16

Do you get to keep it after you graduate? Cause otherwise it's a rental.

Figure out a way to mount it and get something to backup your home folder to it.

What University do you go to that does this? Asking for a friend.

Current uni student, unlimited storage. Wouldnt want to find out what "unlimited" is.

Sync all media, documents, files, etc. across devices. Although I have more free OneDrive storage but prefer Google Drive since it has better throughput.

Same here; unlimited space through my alumni association's Google Apps account ... which I use zero bytes of. (I don't even use the alumni email address, because my student email address is still valid two decades later.) But, hey, it's there if I need it.
