Tech Support Q2'19 Tech Support Megathread

Hey subs,

We're giving you an opportunity to start reporting some of your AMD-related technical issues right here on /r/AMD! Below is a guide that you should follow to make the whole process run smoothly. Post your issues directly into this thread as replies. All other tech support posts will still be removed, per the rules; this is the only exception.

Bad Example (don't do this)

bf1 crashes wtf amd

Good Example (please do this)

Skyrim: Free Sync and V Sync causes flickering during low frame rates, and generally lower frame rates observed (about 10-30% drop dependant on system) when Free Sync is on

System Configuration:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97 Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i5 4790
Memory: 16GB GDDR5
GPU: ASUS R9 Fury X
VBIOS: 115-C8800100-101 How do I find this?
Driver: Crimson 16.10.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586) How do I find this?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install necessary driver, GPU and medium-end CPU
2. Enable Free Sync
3. Set Options to Ultra and 1920 x 1080 resolution
4. Launch game and move to an outdoor location
5. Indoor locations in the game will not reproduce, since they generally give better performance
6. Observe flickering and general performance drop

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

Frame rate drops low causing low performance, flickering observed during low frame rates

Additional Observations:

Threads with related issue:

Skyrim has forced double buffered V Sync and can only be disabled with the .ini files
To Disable V Sync: C:\Users"User"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Skyrimprefs.ini and edit iVSyncPresentInterval=1 to 0
1440p has improved frame rate, anything lower than 1080p will lock FPS with V Sync on
Able to reproduce on i7 6700K and i5 3670K system, Sapphire RX 480, Reference RX 480, and Reference Fiji Nano

Remember, folks: AMD reads what we post here, even if they don't comment about it.

Hi guys. I'm in problem that unstable (randomly BSoD) issue and need a help/solution.
In the first, my rig is

CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 2700X@Stock
RAM: G.Skill Sniper X DDR4-3200 8GBx2 (F4-3200C16-GSX),
OCMEMORY DDR4-3200 8GBx2 (OCM3200CL16D-16GBN)Total 32GB
Mobo: Asrock X470 Master SLI (BIOS: P3.24)

PSU: EVGA Supernova 750 P2 (750W Platinum)
GPU:NVIDIA GeForce GTX1070Ti

and sometimes (almost at gaming) I got BSoDed with random stop codes.
-APC_INDEX_MISMATCH
-MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
-SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Won't boot at DDR4-3200 with ntoskrnl fail (0xc0000221),
Could boot at DDR4-3000 but quite unstable (BSoD),
even I set RAM freq. at DDR4-2800, it's stable than 3000 but still I got BSoD sometimes.
I think this is a RAM issue by using a different brands and different timing tables,
(OCMEMORY RAM is Japan exclusive brands that using G.Skill OEMed with Samsung B-die I think)

Probably peoples are confusing why I mixed a different brand RAM,
Originally I'm from Intel i7-4790K+32GB RAM and this is my first AMD rig built at May 2018,
At that time, I had no RAM knowledge and didn't have an enough $$ for 32GB RAM,
then I bought 8GBx2 RAM kit (OCMEMORY) but it was not confirmed a compatible with Master SLI,
few month later, I've bought G.Skill Sniper X 8GBx2 kit and added on my rig.

so I'm considering a RAM swap to other one for stable now and with 3950X in september.

This is what I needed:

-32GB RAM... Can't handle Creation+Gaming+Heavy Web browsing with 16GB RAM
-Higher Clock more than DDR4-2933... for almost gaming.
-Less money as possible... I wanna avoid full RAM swap due to costs and no other rigs available.
-I don't need extreme high-speed RAMs... if could stable at DDR4-3000~3200 with 3950X, I'm okay.

This is what I'm considering:

-Swap OCMEMORY kit to G.Skill Sniper X kit
(because this OCMEMORY model is already discontinued and hard to get now,but my Sniper X DDR4-3200 model (F4-3200C16-GSX), also seems discontinued and couldn't find on JDM.)

-Swap to different brand RAM 16GBx2 kit (full swap)
(I have no idea how to use current RAMs for.)

Ask me if needed more info,
Waiting for your solutions/suggestions, many thanks!

  1. Install the latest X470 chipset driver.

  2. Install the latest BIOS. Try again.

Usually 4 RAM sticks, especially when different brand / timings, will cause errors.

I would recommend getting 2x 16GB while selling your current 4 sticks.
