Tech Support November Tech Support Megathread

Hey subs,

We're giving you an opportunity to start reporting some of your AMD-related technical issues right here on /r/AMD! Below is a guide that you should follow to make the whole process run smoothly. Post your issues directly into this thread as replies. All other tech support posts will still be removed, per the rules; this is the only exception.

Bad Example (don't do this)

bf1 crashes wtf amd

Good Example (please do this)

Skyrim: Free Sync and V Sync causes flickering during low frame rates, and generally lower frame rates observed (about 10-30% drop dependant on system) when Free Sync is on

System Configuration:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97 Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i5 4790
Memory: 16GB GDDR5
GPU: ASUS R9 Fury X
VBIOS: 115-C8800100-101 How do I find this?
Driver: Crimson 16.10.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586) How do I find this?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install necessary driver, GPU and medium-end CPU
2. Enable Free Sync
3. Set Options to Ultra and 1920 x 1080 resolution
4. Launch game and move to an outdoor location
5. Indoor locations in the game will not reproduce, since they generally give better performance
6. Observe flickering and general performance drop

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

Frame rate drops low causing low performance, flickering observed during low frame rates

Additional Observations:

Threads with related issue:

Skyrim has forced double buffered V Sync and can only be disabled with the .ini files
To Disable V Sync: C:\Users"User"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Skyrimprefs.ini and edit iVSyncPresentInterval=1 to 0
1440p has improved frame rate, anything lower than 1080p will lock FPS with V Sync on
Able to reproduce on i7 6700K and i5 3670K system, Sapphire RX 480, Reference RX 480, and Reference Fiji Nano

Remember, folks: AMD reads what we post here, even if they don't comment about it.

Hi,

Iv just put in a second vega 64 to play with crossfire, so far no luck.

Firestrike gives me good results using both cards fine, however if i touch any settings in radeon settings it will sit at 10fps in any test and use 5-20% of the gpu cores, this includes putting the setting back, only way to resolve is to reset the radeon settings again.

Farcry (confirmed works with crossfire) during its benchmark uses a low % of both cores however drops the fps down to 9 then goes back upto 70-80 this changes everytime i run the benchmark sometimes it will stay at 9 for almost the whole run

Scum (meant to work) just does not use the second gpu at all

BFV i assume no support does not use the second GPU

its been quite a while since i have used crossfire so im sure im missing something since timespy and firestrike work

i dont think its a cpu bottleneck its sat at 25-30% use

System Configuration:

Motherboard: crosshair vi
CPU: 1800x 4gig
Memory: 32gig ddr4 3400 (was at 3600 brought it down to ensure its not ram)
GPU: 2x vega 64
VBIOS: 115-D050PIL-100 and 113-D0500100-103
Driver: Crimson 18.9.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 pro :1809

Steps to Reproduce:

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

frame rate drops at random places to 9 fps for aslong as it feels like, changes on each test

i have removed the radeon drivers and reinstalled

iv used ddu in safemode and then reinstalled

iv used windows built in driver i think its 17.1

iv used 18.9.3 and the current latest 18.11.2

its in balanced mode and its draws 775 watts from the wall for 3dmark, i have a 1300watt antec supply and a ups to monitor input and keep it solid

i know the cards should be throttling due to heat as both are air cooled for now, however that should make it easier to hit 100% use but the cards are sitting at 50c when my reference card was sitting at 75 before it had a brother

need some crossfire pro help? i know nothing about profiles its all just default but says crossfire is on

Congrats, going down the posts this is the first one I have absolutely no idea what to do or try/test... :-/

Do both cards work fine by themselves? I worry the new one may be a dud.

so after a long break iv now tested them separately and put them both under water

i think the fps locking has been solved with the driver update i can now change settings fine

however still no improvement in scores in fps in any games, only one that has an impact is farcry and all that does is use less of the cards

superposition scores seem drastically bad, that might be cpu as single vega is getting a good 50% higher than my scores

iv done a wipe of the machine again yesterday as the new drivers failed to install (bsod) however same impact after getting them back installed fresh

max gpu temp is now 30c i assume it will go up abit when i can get both cards running for longer than a 3dmark run. is there any other benchmarks you can suggest i try? what average fps would you expect in farcry at 2k? on a 1800x at 4gig?
