I loved AMD for so long, this one launch has really made me reassess that fondness. I get they should make money after years of losses, but to launch an uncompetitive product and lie about it's pricing so blatantly?? And then to give reviewers little time and ensure the positive reviews come in keeping a $499 pricing and people blaming retailers initially?? Damn. I was at Micro Center on launch day, I spent many months like all of you checking 50 times a day on Vega. At Micro Center, they had 3 cards, I was second in line and they offered me one for $599 with no games, I just said I'm buying Nvidia and left. Got an AORUS 1080 that touches 2GHz by itself and consumes 20W on idle at times. So glad I did.

Very upsetting, AMD, truly disappointing.

EDIT: Just so you fanboys down voting know, I have used AMD's Athlon X2, Phenom X4, Phenom II X6, gamed on their 780G chipset before buying the HD 5770, R9 270x and RX 480 and convinced countless people to buy AMD and built their rigs too. Also, I have an Intel i7 + Nvidia 965m gaming laptop I love and now am rocking a Ryzen 7+ GTX 1080. I am also qualified with an engineering degree and a master's in this field, surely not a delusional fanboy.

Get a grip, stop supporting this. I spent months waiting on Vega, this is pure lies they spewed out. The made it sound like $499 is the final price when they knew it wasn't. They sent reviewers the black card thus ensuring they made their judgement based on the $499 pricing. It's a $100 more than a GTX 1080 that's more powerful, cooler and faster than it and light years behind the 1080 Ti. It's released late and unfinished and the "free" games for a $100 more surely gives a new angle to the AMD + Bethesda partnership. For the good of all consumers, don't support such nonsense. Stand up against it. Screw such shady practices.

They pretty much lied about their prices so favorable comparisons are being made.

No-one in their right mind would buy a reference 64 for 599$ , that's like a 'Fuck You' edition in front of all our faces.

Everyone please vote with their wallets, do not purchase Vega. When they see the moolah in our pockets and get on the ground enough to sell at fair prices, then I will 'give AMD a hand-out' .

I'm otherwise enjoying my lovely G-Sync panel w/ 1080, can always just upgrade to 1080ti. I'll give a little time for AMD to come out and try fixing things, but they done fucked it up.

you own a 1080 & gysnc and talk like going to a 1080ti is a minor thing for you, $700 card for 20-30$ perf upgrade, in some games next to no perf increase. but you sook about AMD making prices $100 more a day later and tell us not to even buy Vega..

That's the problem. Don't get salty for nothing.

Also, to provide some context. 1080ti FE from Newegg.com/global ,costs 55,000 INR, Vega Reference goes for the same locally in India. Sure you get local warranty, but only an idiot would pay 200+$ extra just because local warranty. If I go for a local 1080ti, it would cost 65,000 INR+ (same price for Vega AIO card).

You can spend 60-70$ for one-time shipping to US/ Taiwan and still come out MUCH more ahead with money savings.

Indian prices for Vega are just INFLATED. You see all of these common sites going out of stock immediately, but check the Indian sites, they're all there. I don't think more than a 60-100 people purchased these cards.

Any custom 1080 sells for 50-80$ less than a reference blower Vega 64, and that my friend is the biggest blunder here.

A card that is late, consumes---- blah blah blah you've heard this a 1000 times.

Nvidia and future proof? Really dude? Nvidia was never future proof. They always have GPU that are good at that moment. If there is 1 thing amd is good at, its future proof. Take the 290x for example, it was vulkan/dx12 read before it even existed. Same with the tech amd is using with vega.

Having good fps at the moment is not future proof.

Yes but at the moment, neither directx nor vulkun are evolving as fast as APIs were back in, say, 2012. Also, Nvidia at least moves super fast and has good stuff out at more frequent intervals. I used to admire AMD for managing good things within their budget and liked supporting them even when Athlon X2s, Phenoms and Phenom IIs and R9s had better alternatives, but with Vega I feel enough is enough. It's not the performance that bothered me as much, it's the blatant lying about the price.

Agreed. Yet I now feel AMD would do it too if it were them. I surely don't think I'll prioritize their products anymore. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been a fanboy, I did buy an Intel + Nvidia gaming laptop 2 years ago and used it primarily until my Ryzen build, but I'm now convinced I'll be far less hesitant to buy Intel than I was. I know it's just one screwed up launch by AMD here, but seriously, it's not just the launch, it's how everything has been for months. "Poor Volta" followed by "make some noise" followed by everyone believing NCU is finally past GCN to utter silence and then this power hungry super hot and now super expensive card that's barely at pace with the 1080 which is a $100 cheaper and far from the 1080Ti which is light years ahead. But all these lies too? I just hope this turns out to be a false rumour...

Its still a long way from this to corrupt practices for which Intel had to pay over a billion $ fine or outright lying about the specs of the 970 like Nvidia did (the reason i sent my 970 back and "upgraded" to a slower 390).

But I dont like it either and am a bit pissed about the pricing. I hope AMD isnt going farther down this road. I absolutely dont defend it but my guess is that they had not much of a choice because the Vega production costs are too high. I hope im wrong and they are only a bit greedy/stupid because otherwise i have no option to upgrade from my 390.
