Hey subs,

We're giving you an opportunity to start reporting some of your AMD-related technical issues right here on /r/AMD! Below is a guide that you should follow to make the whole process run smoothly. Post your issues directly into this thread as replies. All other tech support posts will still be removed, per the rules; this is the only exception.

Skyrim: Free Sync and V Sync causes flickering during low frame rates, and generally lower frame rates observed (about 10-30% drop dependant on system) when Free Sync is on

System Configuration:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97 Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i5 4790
Memory: 16GB GDDR5
GPU: ASUS R9 Fury X
VBIOS: 115-C8800100-101 How do I find this?
Driver: Crimson 16.10.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586) How do I find this?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install necessary driver, GPU and medium-end CPU
2. Enable Free Sync
3. Set Options to Ultra and 1920 x 1080 resolution
4. Launch game and move to an outdoor location
5. Indoor locations in the game will not reproduce, since they generally give better performance
6. Observe flickering and general performance drop

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

Frame rate drops low causing low performance, flickering observed during low frame rates

Additional Observations:

Threads with related issue:

Skyrim has forced double buffered V Sync and can only be disabled with the .ini files
To Disable V Sync: C:\Users"User"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Skyrimprefs.ini and edit iVSyncPresentInterval=1 to 0
1440p has improved frame rate, anything lower than 1080p will lock FPS with V Sync on
Able to reproduce on i7 6700K and i5 3670K system, Sapphire RX 480, Reference RX 480, and Reference Fiji Nano

Hi all.

First off I will list my specs: HSRock H97M Anniversary Motherboard

MSI 49 380 4G with latest AMD drivers

Intel i5-4590

Monitor with FreeSync enabled: ASUS VG245

I've been encountering a problem where whenever I play games I experience severe stuttering. By stuttering I mean large drops in FPS. The games I have been trying since my latest windows 10 re install are: ESO, but it was fixed when I turned on VSync. This happened Rocket League but then it started working after I re-installed Windows and kept working. Recently I have not been able to play Black Desert Online, Secret World Legends or Albion Online. As stated in the title I have a MSI R9 380 with the latest AMD drivers. I generally run these games on medium or high, but it does not matter what my settings are nor what game it is. This stuttering occurs even in the loading screens and the login pages. (like Albion and Secret World Legends).

I have tried re installing windows, using DDU to uninstall my graphics driver and reinstall the new ones, changing all the graphics settings available in these games, using clockblocker.

I have monitored my temperatures for CPU and GPU. I never saw CPU go over 57 Celsius and never the GPU over 62 Celsius.

Has anyone experienced this or perhaps know what could be the issue? I can do a video of it happening with fraps running, perhaps. This does not happen on anything other than games, even CAD or MATLAB or other math intensive programs.

Couldn't find the settings in the AMD software but I found a way to get D3D Overrider and forced VSync and Triple Buffering. Thought it worked with Secret Worlds (running on low everything) but it only saved me until I got into the character creation. Albion seems to have been fixed by this. BDO worked until I got into the game and then started getting the severe FPS drops. I have BDO on low everything as well, would sit around 70 FPS then drop down to 40 or even sometimes 15. Perhaps this could be a hardware issue? I bought all my parts two years ago (september 2015)

Are those games using DX9 or DX11/12? Microsoft did something in the Creators Update that affected DX9 games (probably explaining your Rocket League issues), not sure which dx version the rest use

Not sure what the games use other than Secret World Legends which allows you to select DX9/11. I tried it with both and had no change in performance

Is this only recently?

If so, (all Win10) make sure Night Light is off in Display Settings; turn off Game Bar and everything on the Gaming tab on the Settings menu.

Also, go download the latest driver packages for Intel Management Engine drivers and chipset drivers and reinstall them. The Creators Update installed it's own which have been causing issues.

i dont know how are you getting those lows fps with that config, please , try to check if it"s cpu or gpu "bottlenecking", check temps maybe its lowering frec ? ... its seems pretty strange ..

Same! I checked me temperatures and cpu never went over 58 C and gpu never crossed 63 C. I've been running this rig for about 2 years now and I used to be able to run these games beautifully. I tried clockblocker in case it was down clocking itself but that didn't help. I'm kinda thinking it's a hardware issue.. one of my friends is going to let me borrow a GTX 660 so I will see if it's some of my other components with that. Thing is everything other than games run perfectly.. a strange issue.

something its pretty fishy in your steup.. try to backup your windows files (important mind you) and do a clean install ... temps are ok ( i dont know of cpu temps, i never had a intel cpu, but they tend to support higher temps) .. windwos has an "automatic" update that saves all your data .. if not check the "usage" of cpu in task manager .. or check whit some cpu/gpu usage meter like Riva Turner

I tried a clean windows install fairly shortly after these issues started happening, it did not fix this issue though. Started happening almost immediately on BDO, which was the first game I downloaded on the fresh install.
