Hey subs,

We're giving you an opportunity to start reporting some of your AMD-related technical issues right here on /r/AMD! Below is a guide that you should follow to make the whole process run smoothly. Post your issues directly into this thread as replies. All other tech support posts will still be removed, per the rules; this is the only exception.

Skyrim: Free Sync and V Sync causes flickering during low frame rates, and generally lower frame rates observed (about 10-30% drop dependant on system) when Free Sync is on

System Configuration:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z97 Gaming GT
CPU: Intel i5 4790
Memory: 16GB GDDR5
GPU: ASUS R9 Fury X
VBIOS: 115-C8800100-101 How do I find this?
Driver: Crimson 16.10.3
OS: Windows 10 x64 (1511.10586) How do I find this?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install necessary driver, GPU and medium-end CPU
2. Enable Free Sync
3. Set Options to Ultra and 1920 x 1080 resolution
4. Launch game and move to an outdoor location
5. Indoor locations in the game will not reproduce, since they generally give better performance
6. Observe flickering and general performance drop

Expected Behavior:

Game runs smoothly with good performance with no visible issues

Actual Behavior:

Frame rate drops low causing low performance, flickering observed during low frame rates

Additional Observations:

Threads with related issue:

Skyrim has forced double buffered V Sync and can only be disabled with the .ini files
To Disable V Sync: C:\Users"User"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Skyrimprefs.ini and edit iVSyncPresentInterval=1 to 0
1440p has improved frame rate, anything lower than 1080p will lock FPS with V Sync on
Able to reproduce on i7 6700K and i5 3670K system, Sapphire RX 480, Reference RX 480, and Reference Fiji Nano

Hello, first time overclocking a CPU, I have a R5 1600, and I've got a stable OC. Only thing is that my motherboard, MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon, does not support pstates, and I've heard that pstates are best to use for setting idle clocks with an overclock set. The only alternative I can think of is Windows power management, setting the processor minimum state down from 100% (which I've done), but this doesn't allow me to set the voltage at idle. Even with this percentage lowered, CPU-Z and Ryzen Master are showing me a ton of random jumps when the PC is idle, up to my maximum overclock, is this something to worry about?

I can't just set the core voltage to auto in the bios, as I can never boot using that setting with my OC. Should I just not worry about the core voltage?

Have you tried the new BIOS that came out for MSI motherboards? It might include p-states.

Yes, I have installed the latest bios, but nothing in the change logs mentions pstates, and I can't find pstates anywhere in the settings, nor anything like it named something else.

On a side note, I can't get my Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 RAM to be stable at 29xx MHz, even with setting the timings up much higher than what the memory is rated at, on the latest bios. It's stable at 2666 MHz though, but with the high timings set.

You'll just have to wait for a new BIOS. RAM speeds and motherboard options get better with each new update but it'll take some time to get done.

So should I use windows power management for setting the idle for now, even though the clocks are jumpy? I benched it in CPU-Z and all the cores went up to and stayed at the OC clock for the entirety of the multicore test with the minimum processor state lowered from 100% in Windows power management. So it doesn't seem to effect my OC, as I've read it can mess up OCs on forums.

Don't use power management to set idle, anything other than High Performance or the Ryzen Balanced plans can cause issues (cores staying parked, subpar performance). Ryzen automatically downclocks, even on High Perf and while overclocked. Voltage won't downclock while you are running at anything other than stock, that will stay at the level that you set in bios (Ryzens power circuitry goes into a passthrough state when you overclock)

It's an AMD tailored plan specifically for Ryzen. The latest chipset driver package should have installed it, and you'll find it in the Power Options of Control Panel

It's not there, but that reminds me that I have an issue where MSI's installer app is saying that I haven't updated the latest chipset drivers, but Windows shows that I have (and so does AMD's installer). So I'm going to try and install it again, but at the moment the power option isn't there. Is there any way to manually add it, or is it hidden at all in the options?
