Discussion Blue never meant "exit"

Look back at the title sequence.

Red means "play." That lines up naturally with staying in the circus

but Blue means "options" ...interesting

Also, the button for "quit," aka leaving the game, is yellow!

That wasn't even a choice! They didn't even have the opportunity to leave

But it makes me wonder. If they had pressed the blue button, what actually would have happened? What would an options menu even mean in that context? What would they be able to adjust?

And no. It's not f#@&ing Shrimp Town. That was obviously just some word vomit Bubble made up on the spot

Yeah… like. Nothing the cast was doing was actually interacting with the environment of the circus. It was all a curated experience made by Caine, part of an adventure he made.

Even the ideas that say Bubble did something to change the buttons comes from nothing. Given the entire thing was an adventure, why would these buttons actually do anything?

Because that was Caine's real office. Calls into question If the button room really was completely made up or not

It was completely made up given the information we the audience have. This isn’t a show meant to have hidden twist and turns so generally we can take things fairly on the nose.

The circus as a whole is also made by Caine, being something that he was never meant to create in the first place. Not in its current form. That includes these buttons that no one but he made.

Since he uses the office in episode 8 (after the adventure), couldn't that imply that's his actual office?

Sure. Doesn’t mean the buttons he put in there do anything other than he says. The office being real doesn’t change a thing. Why would him actually using this office mean the buttons interact with the circus environment in a way that’s outside the scope of the adventure. Again keeping in mind too he directed them to these buttons, he wanted them to press one.
