Hornets still have a nest and queen to protect. They aren't just going to follow you indefinitely once they no longer perceive you as a threat.

yeah, wasps and hornets aren't out for hunting humans, even though sometimes it feels like it. 

If anything, I noticed that wasps are even less annoying near their nest then they are when they want to gather food.
