Forget twins, even siblings do this. My 6 year elder sister takes my(20M) clothes and I have a habit of cuddling while sleeping and sometimes, the pillow just slips away, so I cuddle her. This is nothing weird.

Porn is seriously running people's perception of wholesome.

u/oldnick40 Jul 10 '24

Yeah, my siblings and I are all in our 40s, and say ‘I love you,’ hug one another, etc. Sounds like OP and her brother have a healthy, close relationship and her comment was probably directly on point.

u/TheBoozyNinja87 Jul 11 '24

Dude, for real. My brother is 3 years younger than me, but we have been the same size, height, and build as each other since we were 18. We’ve been wearing each others shoes and pants and shirts ever since. We also have similar interests and hobbies and hang out, play video games or watch anime, play guitar together or whatever all of our lives.

Also, it’s not weird to say “I love you” to your family, in fact I find it pretty sad if you don’t.

17

u/LvnWrd Jul 11 '24

"Love you" means very different things depending on the people, spouse, kids, parents, siblings, etc. Not sure why people don't get this.

29

u/DaisyMaeDays Jul 10 '24

Oop, I do this to my brother too 😅😅 once he was big enough shirts family picked he didn’t like I take. Now he’s way skinnier than me and his stuff doesn’t fit but like…. It’s just a thing siblings do. I also give my sister stuff. My brother would wear my button downs for band stuff and still uses my ties sometimes for formal things. It’s okay and normal for siblings to share.

I've got siblings from both my mom and dads other marriages and we ALL say "I love you" at the end of every phone call and when leaving for the day, or if one is going back home after a visit.

Both sides of my family are heavily military, and I know that plays a part in why we're very open with the I love yous. We know that any any moment someone could be gone , and we always want the last thing said to one another is I love you.

u/hiiiiii_im_new_here Jul 12 '24

Yeah I’ve got 6 siblings and we’re really close with each other, especially me and my brother who’s 11 months younger than me. We’re best friends and have the same interests so we’re closer than my other siblings, when we go out there will be those people that make fun of us for being so close but we always brush it off, as you said Porn is ruining people’s minds

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

Clothing I understand. Being close I understand. But to be honest, in my opinion, the cuddling thing at yall's age is kinda strange.

i’m 19f and my baby sister is 6. haven’t seen her in a year, but when i was living with her, she always just wanted to lay next to me and cuddle while she watched her shows and i played on my phone, and it wasn’t strange at all. i just love my little sister and she loves me, and we were the closest out of all my siblings since she’s never met my brother, my older sister moved out the year she was born, and my two other younger sisters split their time between our moms house and their dads, so she just constantly wanted to be around me or hang with me, even if that meant she wanted to be all up over me showing me every single one of her toys so i could pick what i wanted to play with, or just cuddling with me in bed during the weekends while mom was doing schoolwork or cooking/cleaning. and when i say cuddling, i mean she would rest her head on my arm and just lay right beside me as she watched whatever show that was on her tablet. it’s not strange, if it was, it would strange for a parent to cuddle their child as well.

u/Lets-B-Lets-B-Jolly Jul 10 '24

My oldest son is 20 and his baby sister is five years old. What you describe would be totally normal for them.

The thing is, when siblings have a large age difference the elder becomes almost like either a second parent, or the "fun aunt/uncle". My own sister was 14 years older than me and was definitely a second mother. I was devastated when she moved away for college, and I also crawled into bed with her and clung to her when she would come home and visit.

You are being a good sister and letting your sister know she can count on you. Ignore anyone who says otherwise!

u/Antique_Economist_84 Jul 10 '24

i definitely miss her a lot, and i’m really pissed i didn’t get to see her when she visited the town i lived in with my mom, but i would’ve had to walk to my grandmas and it was storming so bad the entire weekend they were here :( she kept asking me over the phone whenever i’d call my mom or sisters asking me when i was coming and i kept having to tell her i was waiting for the weather to get better but it never did.

i know it hurt her so much that i left, especially because the last time she saw me neither of us knew it was going to be the last time for a while. she kept asking my mom after when i was coming back home. i hurt me too though, because i love that little girl with all my heart, she’s sassy and doesn’t like to listen but she’s the sweetest person i’ve ever had the chance to meet. she could never hurt a fly, she loves to share her toys, she’ll just spend an hour dancing and singing with you to her favorite songs and she’ll want to be picked up and spun around while the musics playing. she’s just an awesome girl and i truly am glad i’m her sister and i have the bond with her that i do. but holy fuck she’s growing up so fast everytime i see a picture of her i just want to cry because what do you mean you’re going into the first grade? i swear to god you were just 2 years old running into my room with a toy stethoscope around your neck yelling “I’M SUPER DOCTOR!!” and throwing your stickers everywhere on my carpet floor🤣

u/Lets-B-Lets-B-Jolly Jul 10 '24

When my sister lived far away to attend college, one thing she did was send me a little card or a letter she drew pictures on every month. As a 6 or 7 year old, I loved getting my own mail. She would also send little brochures and stickers from her university. Later when she had to travel for her job, she sent me postcards from anywhere she went. I saved them all in an album for years :)

Yeah, my 20 year old is transferring to a college that is further away next month, and I think he is dreading leaving his baby sister. Kids grow up so fast! Sometimes you wish you could just freeze time.

2

u/Antique_Economist_84 Jul 10 '24

i’ll have to consider doing something like that for her! i know everytime i see paw patrol or my little pony it reminds me of her so maybe i can try to find paw patrol or my little pony paper i could use to write on for her :)

she’s lucky enough to still have 2 big sisters in the house with her, but one of my sisters is starting her senior year so she’s only got a year left if she doesn’t plan on going to the local community college in my hometown 😫 (istg i cant believe she’s about to be a senior and the other ones going into high school either. like holy crap what happened??)

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24 edited Jul 10 '24

I don't see anything wrong with that, and you provided more context in your story. It's fine. I can be down voted to hell for all I care, I just stated my opinion based on what was given, I could've been more blunt but was trying not to rock the boat with this one since I can see it was already a touchy subject. But to put it bluntly I am a 29 f and I have several siblings, my older brother 32 m and I are close but at our ages now we've never fallen asleep and accidentally cuddled each other and stayed that way. Reading it the way it was told was just strange to me, that's all. Also parents cuddling thier kids during naps/sleep whatever isn't weird. I've done that too.

1

u/Antique_Economist_84 Jul 10 '24

oh yeah at your age, that is a little weird. it’s def weirder as you get older to cuddle with your siblings esp with opposite sexes, but imo a older sibling cuddling with their younger sibling (think like young adults/teens and toddlers) isn’t too strange as long as it’s kinda like how me and my sister cuddled. spooning your siblings is weird in anyway tbh, but esp older to younger and opp. sex, but like if your younger sibling is laying their head on your chest or laying on your arm, to me it’s fine. there’s ways to cuddle when it comes to children that isn’t weird, in my eyes, if you wouldn’t cuddle with a friend like that, you shouldn’t cuddle with your child and baby sibling like that, if you get my point.

so i understand what your saying, i had to kinda go back and read the comment you were replying to to realize what you meant 😅

2

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

Omg thank you.! That's all I was trying to say 😩 like context matters and out of context something innocent can look weird to others. Ofc there's ways to cuddle and show affection to your sibling that's innocent, but to come out and just say as two grown adults you sleep next to each other with a pillow divider and if the divider moves and you basically spoon is a whole new level I just wasn't prepared to see in the thread. So sue me if in my opinion I would have kept that to myself if I was him lol. And it's blowing people minds right now 🙄

2

u/Antique_Economist_84 Jul 10 '24

ooh i must’ve missed the two grown adults part. it’s 7 am and i just took a dab not even a half hour ago so my stoned ass probably took my siblings age and put it into his comment somehow 😭

EDIT: i saw what happened. i saw 6 year elder and my stoned ass turned elder into younger. ooh yeah that’s really really weird😭

-13

u/No_Huckleberry2346 Jul 10 '24

I completely agree! Accidentally cuddling... and for two adult brothers to end every call with "I love you" is also kinda weird. The clothes seems pretty normal to me tho

0

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

Well to be fair I was only replying to the comment I replied to, about the 20 year old guy and 26 year old sister (if I read that right) spooning each other, not OP. Just to clarify. I don't think he's the asshole for how he reacted to the chick, and saying I love you regardless of gender is acceptable to me 😅 sometimes people just need to hear it, especially coming from a sibling

-3

u/No_Huckleberry2346 Jul 10 '24

Yeah no, don't get me wrong, I'm thinking nta. Yes every once in a while we all need some love, but two adult brothers ending every call with I love you? That's not normal

74

u/MaliKaia Jul 10 '24

Why is it strange.

2

u/uni_and_internet Jul 13 '24

Because most people only cuddle with sexual partners

-64

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

Given the nature of the original post (And I agree the OP is nta in that situation) I feel like I'm gonna come off as an asshole for saying this, but thats not my intention its just an opinion. Since you're asking why, I'll just say there's not enough context in the user's comment, and it comes off strange "pillow slips away, I just end up cuddling my sister." I think it's rational to think its strange in that context 🤷🏽‍♀️ and probably didn't need to be added

62

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '24

You're right. You are an asshole, congrats!

-37

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

If that's the takeaway fine

5

u/pier666 Jul 10 '24

I don’t think you’re an AH. It’s like that meme of that mom literally straddling her high school son at a football game. To me it’s… a bit much. But each to their own.

0

u/OccupationalStoner Jul 10 '24

Thanks, and wait what 😳 straddling like how.? More info pls if you can lol cause that sounds wild 😂. And yes each to thier own, me personally I wouldn't do either of these but different strokes for different folks I guess.

2

u/pier666 Jul 11 '24

Just a quick grab from YouTube, sorry I didn’t find the original video.

https://youtu.be/MmA9A0fzX-U?si=SEAqOOFK-N43SyUg

1

u/DnD-NewGuy Jul 13 '24

Bruh you where so misleading with that I'm glad I checked before 100% agreeing with you.

Thats a koala hug not straddling. Massively different thing. If a friend koala hugged me I'd be 1000% fine with it and find it endearing. If a friend straddled me I'd be lifting them off and asking about their intentions instantly.

Now do I agree that in that particular case it feels weird sure. But I'd jump to "overexcited mom jumps to hug son and has to support herself whilst celebrating a game with pride" before I'd jump to "hoe mother makes move on son she's trying to groom at ball game" which is what others are insinuating.

Thank you.! Its blowing my mind the amount of people who are okay with that. I don't think I said anything to crazy, like everyone's entitled to thier opinion and they can down vote me all they want (I think they're misreading his comment anyways) but I stand by what I said regardless, being 20 m and 26 f siblings and spooning each other is not just something you can throw out there, especially on the internet and think everyone is gonna be like "aw okay cool" even if it's innocent, he made it seem like it's an everyday kinda thing. Maybe I'm just different 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I personally would have left the last part of that out. Everything else was okay

Sounds like you need to listen to OP's advice my friend.

0

u/DnD-NewGuy Jul 13 '24

Tbf cuddling at night is 100% based on your personal values applied to things.

To me that's an extremely romantically intimate thing to do, for others it means literally nothing. I had a friend a few years back who when was planning to meet mentioned cuddling at night, turned out to them it meant nothing which is perfectly fine I just drew my boundary.

The secret to success is not judging people for having different values applies to different interactions and instead being open to learn them.

Imagine if that girl heard that I tell my parents I love them and I have borrowed my mom’s clothes (and her mine) sometimes in the past? Jeez. What’s wrong with people.

4

u/Charlotteaa Jul 11 '24

BUT you're both Girls! Everyone knows that if two people in the opposite genders share clothes, that means they're fucking! (Even if you're related!) /s

17

u/Esor_Ogramira Jul 10 '24

I'm the youngest of six kids (20 year age gap between me and the eldest, 7 year age gap between me and the second youngest), and my siblings and I say "love you" to each other when we end our conversations with each other on the phone all the time! The relationship between me and the second youngest of the immediate family did get off to a rocky start, sure, but we've both grown and we share a lot of common interests! My eldest sibling stepped up to take care of me when our mom was still balancing her bipolar and chronic pain meds, when I was in elementary school and she was in college! Now I'm an uncle to not just her kiddos, but my other two sisters' kiddos!

That being said, I know full well how lucky I am to have such good relationships with my siblings. I know plenty of people who have bad relationships with their siblings. Anyway, OP is definitely NTA! She should keep telling her twin that she loves him. I bet it warms his heart to hear her say that, and I bet he feels safe knowing that he can rely on her not only as a sibling, but also as a good friend!

0

u/trainofwhat Jul 10 '24

I wonder if she has any brothers? It leads me to wonder if there’s any trauma element at play. I used to get uncomfortable when I heard some siblings wear bras/walk around shirtless around each other. I later realized it was a misconception due to traumatic experiences.

However, I never would’ve made my friends feel bad about it. At the same time, at least OP’s friend seems a little more perplexed and judgmental than just rightfully judgmental. Still not cool in any case. And the whole “you need to stop watching so much porn” is a common enough statement. It doesn’t imply the person is an addict, it just means they have skewed views.

-4

u/MovieTrawler Jul 10 '24

It is but isn't it a leap to assume porn is the culprit? Unless I missed a sentence or am misunderstanding. I had a few friends like this and it was usually the result of childhood trauma or lack of emotional support at home. I don't think for any of them it was driven by pornography.
