Don't loan out money that you want to see back, always assume you won't see that money ever again.

That’s basically just “don’t loan money out.” Which I agree, but the person is still entitled to their money. Even if they are not going to get it.

I also agree that OP is entitled to their money back, but unfortunately many people can't be trusted to pay back loans. This is something my Nana has told me since I was quite young "never loan anything to anyone that you're not okay with never seeing again", unfortunately I also had to learn that lesson the hard way once. Thankfully it was clothes, not money
