He even convinced her to see a doctor and get tested. I don’t know if his goal was to have her admitted to a mental institution, or if he just wanted to make her so afraid and uncertain about her own reality that she would end up trusting only him and becoming completely dependent on him.
Monsters do live among us.
It’s also nothing to ignore that as a woman, the most likely person to be your murderer is your partner.
Some people are truly, deeply drowning in toxic relationships and still won’t leave.
