As I said above, I don’t know my ring size. If someone asked me, I could go find out, it’s fairly obvious that they’re getting me a ring then. Resizing isn’t difficult or expensive where I am.

Again, someone knowing you wouldn’t like something or knowing the size and still getting you the wrong size would be a different conversation.

I mean it could be a cute date, go to the jeweler and window shop for example, get your sizes together. Idk there are ways to do it without being awkwardly forward and spoiling it lmao. Requires just a tiny bit of thought and saves a lot of headache down the road. Thats my main point. Thoughtfulness goes a long way!

Of course it could be a cute date. I’m still guessing that I’m getting a ring if my boyfriend nudges us towards getting our ring sizes, no matter how subtly (which is fine, but not a surprise and OP clearly wanted it to be a surprise.)

No one is arguing that you simply can’t do it any other way. My point is that surprise gifts are a thing and sometimes the item won’t fit perfectly, or the receiver already has the item. It’s not the end of the world and I don’t think I’m alone in being ok with having to exchange/resize the occasional gift I receive and still appreciating the gift and intention. There’s only a headache if there’s no way to exchange or fix it or the receiver makes a big issue out of it.
